Hansen Hotel is an excellent budget option if you are visiting Newcastle. The hotel was very clean with comfortable beds, had a good location within quick walking distance to a subway stop and about a 10 minute walk to downtown and customer service while I was there was excellent (the female supervisor of the hotel was friendly and made me feel welcome to be there). It is across the street from a small grocery/convenience store (a Tesco limited is about a 5 minute walk)-it is about a 30 minute walk from the main Newcastle train station (or a very quick subway ride from there). There is a free limited breakfast with free coffee, snacks and bananas and a small bar downstairs if you want to hang out. An excellent value for budget travelers to Newcastle.

Booking here was a cheaper option for a few nights before going on to a 4 star hotel for a reunion. When it said that there was a possibility of Hen and Stag nights being held I feared the worst. However, it all turned out much better than expected and I was impressed by the efficient management, cleanliness and overall good value. It's about 25 minutes walk from the Central Station but once you know the route it's easily accessible and handily placed for the city centre. 4 others were staying there on the Friday and Saturday nights and there were thankfully no Hen and Stag groups there.Room No.3 on the top floor had 4 beds in it and I had sole occupancy. The room included a shower and toilet and a good continental breakfast was provided. I'd stay there again.

I booked a twin room for 4 nights from Monday. Although the accommodation was advertised on a third party app that required full payment at the time of booking, I contacted the proprietor and was able to make arrangements to pay cash on arrival. The hotel is located 1.2 miles north of the city centre, a 30 minutes walk from Newcastle Central Railway Station. There is a Nisa Local convenience store opposite and a Tesco Express within a 10 minutes walk. I was permitted to check in earlier than the 2pm time quoted and I received a warm welcome. I was given a 5 bedded room on the second floor which would be ideal for a family or group of friends. Although the premises is on a busy main road the room itself was at the rear and therefore quiet. The room features a large wall mounted interactive TV, a fridge, tea & coffee making facilities, a small wardrobe and three twin electric sockets with built in USB points and a closet sized en suite with shower. The room and ensuite were very clean and presentable and large white bath towels are provided. The bed was comfortable and bedding clean. Breakfast is served from 0700-0900. The "breakfast to go" option comprises a hot drink, pain au chocolat/croissant, piece of fruit and a cereal and is included in the nightly rate. Cooked breakfasts are available, ranging from £3-£5. This conveniently located hotel offers excellent value for money and friendly service and I would recommend it to budget conscious travellers looking to stay near to the universities and city centre.

Really recommend this for large groups for stags or hens or group holidays. Meg and her husband are absolute gems. Could not have been any more helpful to us. Close to everything and they are so helpful.
