At the end of July I spent 4 nights at Jesmond Dene House with my Mother. The staff were warm and welcoming as always. The service was efficient and professional. The Arts & Crafts building is beautiful and the atmosphere more country house than hotel. My only negative comment relates to the standard of housekeeping, which had noticably declined since...

The house itself is lovely, full of character and history. The hotel is clean and well kept but could probably do with a quirky interiors update to bring it up to its full potential. Rooms are lovely, clean and bathrooms nicely equipped. Food is amazing, breakfast and dinner were of a very very good standard. The staff were so lovely...

Visiting Newcastle? Then forget about the city and stay in Jesmond at this excellent hotel situated in peaceful gardens with a superb restaurant (5 min drive from the centre of Newcastle). Food and staff are first class and the rooms are good sized, beautifully decorated with lovely aspects. We went with our elderly mother and she couldn't have been looked...

This was absolutely brilliant! We stayed for our wedding anniversary and the staff could not have been more friendly and accommodating - and they all knew it was our anniversary! We had a brilliant meal - not cheap, but faultless.

Staying at this hotel for three nights with family and we ate at the restaurant on the first night. The food was delicious and interesting and the location of the restaurant with views over the garden was fantastic. As many others have noted, the staff here are clearly very well trained, professional and courteous. Excellent all round.

We had eaten here twice before (once for Sunday lunch and once for high tea) and, although we enjoyed our meals then, I didn't think it was exceptional. This time however we were blown away. We booked on a Thursday night as this was the last day of our summer holiday. The restaurant was only half full, so the staff...

First of all the irritating bits. (IT DOES GET MUCH BETTER). When we drove in I had to avoid the prone figure of a "Goth" wedding guest lying on the car park entrance. OK. Maybe she liked dressing in black with a daft hat and maybe she thought it was stylish to wear that to a wedding before becoming semi...

We stayed two nights to celebrate an anniversary and were upgraded to the Apartment Suite and given a half bottle of champagne, which we drank on the terrace of the suite. Some of the rooms looked relatively small but all looked very comfortable. We got a warm welcome at reception and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. The...

My husband and I have just returned from a 2 night stay at this hotel and have very mixed feelings about our stay. We called the hotel directly to book 2 nights specifically in Room 11 as it has a roof terrace but when we got to the hotel they only had a reservation for 1 night. Obviously mistakes like...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
A grand house with contemporary style, a leafy setting near the heart of the city. Jesmond Dene House is neither a townhouse nor a country house hotel. It's simply 40 well-designed bedrooms and suites in a richly historic building offering understated luxury and rather good food. Overlooking the wooded valley of Jesmond Dene, the privately owned hotel guarantees peace, escapism and a refreshing change. Newcastle's city centre, however, is only a five-minute drive. The hotel recently received 4 red stars and the AA Hotel of the Year 2008-2009. ... more   less
