Famous old hotel that has been nicely modernised. Staff were friendly and attentive. Excellent breakfast. Far from cheap but just about value for money. Location could not be better and there is help with parking. Room was comfortable.

Usually this hotel has a first rate restaurant but last night's meals where to say the least not in line with there pricing level, most of the party where under whelmed, and being informed of the our displeasure was met by no response from the staff.

The Angel is certainly one of our favourite restaurants in Bury so there are very few criticisms worthy of report however....... If you are spending £100 plus on a meal then please make sure that the red wine is served at the right temperature and that the table doesn't wobble, and I would like to have more than two cheeses...

Would highly recommend afternoon tea here. Not overly expensive (£17.50) a head and you certainly get your money's worth. A great selection of sweet and savoury treats. Seating in a comfortable, relaxed area of the hotel. Definitely coming back.

Having been past the Angel in the past and not gone in decided to pay a visit and have their express lunch. Which was very good and reasonable value. 4 star quality in a nice light and bright restaurant. I also find the side entrance which has no steps. I will be back.

We were going to a show at the Apex and thought it would be nice to stay for a couple of nights. Bury St Edmunds is a nice town and well worth a visit. We had a lovely stay, the hotel is very centrally located, just a few minutes walk from the cathedral and shops. Stayed in a Impressions room...

I was treated to a night away at the Angel on my 50th birthday. As another surprise, my brother his partner & our friends turned up unannounced. We were all booked on a promotion in which we got a bottle of very tasty chilled prosecco in the room on arrival - a great way to start my celebrations. . We...

Firstly; after a palava I had caused over a double booking I cannot thank Rian enough for sorting things for me. The Romantic Suite is wonderful, perfectly fitted out and amazingly large comfy bed. Hotel itself is impressive with great contemporary and traditional mix of styles. A very high standard throughout. The Wingspan bar is an interesting cosy place perfect...

Lived in Bury most of my life and remember The Angel when it was Burys premier hotel. Yesterday was my birthday and hubbie booked a surprise meal at 1921 where we had amazing food n exemplary service ! To top the evening off we thought we would have coffee on the sofas infront of the fire in the Angel !...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
This Georgian ivy clad 4 star boutique hotel and restaurant in Suffolk surprises with a twist of urban chic. Our Suffolk hotel is right in the heart of Bury St Edmunds town centre and everything is just a step from here. Explore winding, cobbled, shop filled streets and a plethora of ancient architecture on the doorstep. Once inside, The Angel Hotel is a curious contrast of comfy contemporary design with touches of exotic grandeur. Warm leather sofas vie for your company in the lounge, which is filled with curiosities, pop art, eccentric oddities and cool vintage furniture. It is a hotel of many different aspects all artfully blended together into an exciting package and the bedrooms are no exception. The Angel Eaterie has a great reputation and dining here is a culinary treat. Take the steps down into the decadently curious Wingspan Cocktail Bar & Lounge located in the 12th Century vaults under the Hotel. Wingspan is the perfect location to meet with friends, for pre-dinner drinks, or simply to relax after a long day. ... more   less
