We came for a Sunday lunch here, the portions were a bit on the small side for the price, but it does have the gastro/Michelin feel about it, staff were very pleasant and the wine was delicious. Its very nice for an occasional treat out, it did cost us more than usual Sunday pub grub but it was worth it....

Stopped in for a coffee with my family. The hotel has a contemporary feel - clean and modern. There was a lovely fire in the area just off the foyer. We were waiting nearly 10 minutes and no staff had approached us so I had to go to reception to ask for someone to come take our order. The coffee...

Great Hotel, superb location, only let down by a few small issues with the room ! Had read some of the previous reviews, and the problems guests had with parking. The Hotel does have a car park which is accessible through the arch to the left of the main entrance to the hotel. We weren't aware of this, so we pulled...

My wife and 12 yr old daughter had long wished to visit this iconic Suffolk hotel . We booked a suite opposite the abbey gate and so the view could not have been better. The room was well appointed with a good smart bathroom and the shower worked after I had descaled it because about half the jets were blocked....

Stayed one night in a large room which never really warmed up with a giant bed which was comfortable enough. It was quite a hike to the room up and down several short sets of stairs. Being an old coaching inn there are no lifts. The room was ok but the bathroom sink drain couldn't (as far as I could...

We had booked this hotel for a weekend break and were arriving separately from work on a Friday night and meeting some friends. When I arrived I could not find the car park so parked out side the hotel and went looking for Reception. Even before I entered the hotel one of the staff asked if I needed help and...

Just a one night stay but memorable. Found the staff, very friendly but still professional. I have noticed comments about the issues with car parking, but did not experience this and we had two cars - the hotel staff just seemed to to deal with the car parking in thier stride. We were given a complimentary room upgrade and the...

I've been using the Angel Hotel for more than sixty years and recently have been a regular for lunch and tea when visiting the theatre. On October the 8th after I had finished my tea and paid the young lady receptionist I mentioned I was waiting for my taxi who immediately snapped "You can't wait in here you know." an...

I am extremely disappointed to read your review and i cannot account for the comments made - they are certainly not how the hotel conducts itself. I hope you will let us demonstrate this is the case on your next visit.

We were in a small modern room off the courtyard, which appeared to be a converted stable. It was nicely decorated & fairly small, but suited our needs as we weren't there much. This hotel is a perfect location for exploring the center of town on foot. Nice hotel lounge with real fire for those cold afternoons. The hotel valet...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
This Georgian ivy clad 4 star boutique hotel and restaurant in Suffolk surprises with a twist of urban chic. Our Suffolk hotel is right in the heart of Bury St Edmunds town centre and everything is just a step from here. Explore winding, cobbled, shop filled streets and a plethora of ancient architecture on the doorstep. Once inside, The Angel Hotel is a curious contrast of comfy contemporary design with touches of exotic grandeur. Warm leather sofas vie for your company in the lounge, which is filled with curiosities, pop art, eccentric oddities and cool vintage furniture. It is a hotel of many different aspects all artfully blended together into an exciting package and the bedrooms are no exception. The Angel Eaterie has a great reputation and dining here is a culinary treat. Take the steps down into the decadently curious Wingspan Cocktail Bar & Lounge located in the 12th Century vaults under the Hotel. Wingspan is the perfect location to meet with friends, for pre-dinner drinks, or simply to relax after a long day. ... more   less
