Visited today for cream teas after having a great afternoon tea recently at salthouse. However this place did not match up at all in standard. Firstly seated in a draft then offered some water which was complimentary at salthouse but ended up being nearly £4 here. Salthouse provides 2 fresh scones with jam and cream plus unlimited tea whereas here...

Following a recent mid-week booking for two within The Eaterie at The Angel Hotel we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of not only the food but the service also. Our waiter for the evening (a Portuguese chap) was very friendly and knowledgeable regarding all dishes on the menu. Delicious canapés preceded an excellent main course, both the steak and...

.Lunch for 4 people including appertifs, wine and coffee for £165. Tremendous value. We forewent desserts as the quantity and quality of the main course made them unecessary. Service very attentive, food interesting and well presented. One criticism: musak!

Went for dinner with husband Went first to wingspan bar my husband went to bar to be told very abruptly it's table service- well show us to a table and advise on entry. Waitress came to get us and take us to our table. No one took our coats, no water was offered to us and we then had to...

Lovely room with exposed beams. In the top floor with great views of the abbey. Superb customer service, nothing too much trouble. Only downside I can see is that the room I stayed in (456) had a kettle but the only place I could find to plug it in was the socket next to the TV, which was not where...

Booked this hotel for a birthday treat. The hotel is very well placed for the beautiful Abbey Gardens and great shopping in the town. The valet parking worked very well and all of the staff were charming. The bedroom was small but a very comfortable super kind bed and everything was spotless. Welldone to the housekeeping team! Our meal on...

Dropped in for a nightcap and to recce for breakfast. Night service a bit slow, but atmosphere warm and relaxed, decor quirky and eclectic. Returned next morning for breakfast and it was perfect. Fresh oj/aj, hot, freshly cooked food on hot plates, excellent service. Could easily while away the whole morning doing very little and nobody would bother you.

This is a review of the restaurant and not the rooms at the hotel. We visited on a Friday lunchtime and selected the Express Menu - this allows you to choose 1,2 or 3 courses from a fairly limited selection. I found this to be very useful as I'd usually scan the menu for something I was already familar with;...

Whilst in Bury St Edmunds on our wedding anniverary we decided to pop in to the Angel Hotel for a celebration lunch. However, we had not dressed for the occasion and stuck out like sore thumbs among the other diners. Notwithstanding that, we had a superb lunch with great wine and the ambience was just great. To be in the...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
This Georgian ivy clad 4 star boutique hotel and restaurant in Suffolk surprises with a twist of urban chic. Our Suffolk hotel is right in the heart of Bury St Edmunds town centre and everything is just a step from here. Explore winding, cobbled, shop filled streets and a plethora of ancient architecture on the doorstep. Once inside, The Angel Hotel is a curious contrast of comfy contemporary design with touches of exotic grandeur. Warm leather sofas vie for your company in the lounge, which is filled with curiosities, pop art, eccentric oddities and cool vintage furniture. It is a hotel of many different aspects all artfully blended together into an exciting package and the bedrooms are no exception. The Angel Eaterie has a great reputation and dining here is a culinary treat. Take the steps down into the decadently curious Wingspan Cocktail Bar & Lounge located in the 12th Century vaults under the Hotel. Wingspan is the perfect location to meet with friends, for pre-dinner drinks, or simply to relax after a long day. ... more   less
