Stopped over in Wells on a long journey south and attended Evensong in the magnificent Cathedral to experience the wonderful choir! The White Hart completed an excellent stopover with a very modern room in an ancient hotel. The bed was comfortable and the amenities first class. Breakfast a real treat.

Drive one and a half hours to try the tasting menu which on the website looked great, scallops, beef etc. Problem was it was a completely different menu, No fish but a smooth pate in place, no beef but a miniscule portion of pork. The lemon posset to finish was however excellent. There were two other diners in the dining...

Friendly and helpful staff, comfortable beds, nice and warm and a good breakfast. The hotel building is very old and therefore has creaky floorboards and quirky nooks and crannies. The bathroom was in need of an update but was functional and had plenty of hot water. The location is great and free parking, although extremely tight, a real bonus (I...

The hotel staff were extremely welcoming and helpful. The hotel is ideally situated opposite the cathedral and has lots of character. We had a very good deal for dinner bed and breakfast. The dinner was excellent, breakfast buffet could have done with some fresh fruit , but cooked food good. Our room was a Little tired, but the enormous bed...

Stayed here overnight one cold Saturday in January. Didn't have dinner, but a decent full English the following morning. Room was small, but well appointed, clean and comfortable. Hotel which appeared to be an old coaching inn is located in the centre of Wells opposite cathedral green with limited parking on site. Traditionally furnished, warm and comfortable. Staff were welcoming...

Room was pleasant and well appointed, likewise the bathroom. Bed comfortable. Breakfast excellent. Perfect location in the centre of town. For the rooms in the annex there should be a doormat outside the room so that guests can wipe their wet or dirty shoes before entering the room. The carpets have clearly suffered because of this.

We had a very nice time with you and enjoyed the warm ambience of the hotel. The staff we met, particularly those who were in the restaurant on Saturday evening and on reception throughout, were exceptionally friendly and charming. The evening meal in Sadler's was the most enjoyable meal I have had out for quite a while. The home cured...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Recently taken over by new owners (September 2015) the 15th century White Hart Hotel is situated in the city centre just 10 short steps from the famous Cathedral. Its 15 en suite bedrooms make the perfect base from which to explore Wells and the surrounding area. The restaurant serves locally sourced British food cooked by Head Chef Matthew Briddon (River Café). Wells is a medieval city nestling on the southern side of the Mendip Hills with the mystic Somerset Levels stretching away to the south and west. The history of Wells goes right back to Roman times when it was known that there was a settlement, probably because of the springs that bubble up here. Wells gets its name from these springs which can today be found in the gardens of the Bishop's Palace. Bristol, Bath, Glastonbury, Glastonbury Tor, Cheddar, Clarks Village, Wells Golf Club and Longleat are all close by. ... more   less
