A true hidden gem of a hotel. Caring, attentive staff, our favourite was Charlie. The food was excellent in the restaurant, immediately made to feel at home; nothing was too much trouble. All in all a superb stay!!

Shrewsbury is a very nice town, and this hotel has a very central location. I arrived by railway and it was less than 10 min walking. My room had a quiet location in the end of the corridor, and was typical English with carpets on the floor. What I appreciated most was the water boiler and free biscuits in the...

Many years since I had been to the Prince Rupert it was a first class establishment then and did not disappoint on this visit. There were four couples staying and attending the Gala Dinner we were booked in by friendly staff in an efficient manner and made to feel very welcome. We readied ourselves for the evening and all arranged...

This is our fourth stay at the Prince Rupert. We have stayed in the Charlotte Suite (our best room experience). then the Prince Rupert Suite (tried to look out for ghosts/orbs! - didn't see any), then a standard bedroom (nothing special but adequate - all that was available) and this time we booked in the King James suite (but we...

Stopped here on a last minute spontaneous New Year's Eve trip. Staff couldn't have been more helpful and breakfast was great (though portions on the cooked breakfasts were smaller than usual). Room was fine but slightly shabby with a window that looked about to disintegrate.

Privately owned for many years by Michael & Diane Matthews, the hotel offers a great choice of dining all with a focus on fresh local produce. The Royalist is ideal for a special occasion with an a la carte menu together with a superb wine list. Chambers brasserie is renowned for its traditional British menu at sensible prices and located at the front of the hotel overlooking the gardens of St. Alkmunds square, Camellias Tea Rooms offers an extensive menu selection including traditional afternoon tea served on a three tier cake stand.
