No problem with the food here as its at the better end of Good pub grub but the delay in serving means that the only thing you are talking about after the meal is how slow it all is.Felt sorry for the waitress who was rushed off her feet but one hour and twenty minutes from sitting down to getting...

The Fox House is second to non location wise, but the service and quality of food do seem to vary quite a lot. We are lucky enough to live close by and so it is a handy place to go and very picturesque in summer. On the whole it is resonable, although I would recommed booking on a Saturday night,...

We visited the Fox House last April on one of our regular visits to the Peak District. In fact, this was our third visit to the Fox House. Myself & my partner are fans of Innkeeper's Lodges (of which the Fox House is one). The rooms here are clean and spacious (as they usually are in Innkeeper's Lodges). The service...

Average rooms, soulless and noisy. We stayed in the Annex and were woken countless times by other residents slamming doors and shouting in hallways. Hot water very slow to come through and tiled floors very cold in bathrooms. Plenty of pillows but a spare blanket would have been welcome. Rooms clean if sparse. Breakfast also sparse continental style....for the money...

Stayed in Room 11 this time, probably the best room in the house. It is clear that further improvements have been made since our last visit and customer care continues at the same level with every member of staff welcoming and helpful. For the prices charged this establishment provides exceptional value for money. We stayed three nights and ate every...

Myself and my Husband have just returned from a one night stay here, whilst the pub is ok, it's not fantastic , the accommodation is rubbish. We stayed in Room 5. Check in was a bit strange but it is a pub , maybe a proper reception area would be good but it's so crammed in the bar area I...

brilliant value for a large family room and breakfast. Got this room for 3people and it was £25, well worth it! Lovely location and friendly welcoming staff. Looking forward to going back in the summer.

I have eaten at the Fox house on quite a few occasions a while back and found it very nice. However, I had lunch there today with my partner and the experience was less than satisfactory. It took 15/20 minutes to actually order for a start (it was midweek). We ordered two bowls of soup and a sandwich. We waited...

As we were working in Sheffield on New Years Eve, booked a meal at The Fox House on the way back. Wanted a room too, but they were already all gone at the time of booking back in September. The Fox House has long been a favourite of ours. Have eaten there many times over the past ten years, but...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Just three miles from the historic village of Hathersage, this charming country lodge dates back to 1773 and is one of the cosiest hotels in the Peak District. What's more, it's only a short drive from Sheffield and Chesterfield. The lodge, which you'll find within the Longshaw estate, offers 9 comfy, characterful rooms, a menu of hearty, seasonally inspired food, and a wide range of regularly changing cask-ales and well-chosen wines. Longshaw is a lovely place with many hidden gems: spectacular views, ancient oak woods, sleepy meadows, heather moorland, archeological treasures and millstone quarries. Locals will proudly tell you that it's also home to the oldest continuous sheep-dog trials in the country. If you've brought your walking boots, head for Hathersage - a great place to start your exploration of the area's intriguing rock formations. The area is a haven for walking and climbing, but it's also a popular with swimmers. That's because it's lucky enough to have its own heated outdoor swimming pool, set within a lawned enclosure and usually open from March through to September. There are plenty more pursuits to keep you busy, with Chatsworth House, Sheffield Botanical Gardens, Sheffield Ski Village and the ancient village of Eyam all on the doorstep. ... more   less
