Came here for two nights to catch up with friends and do some walking. The rooms were spacious and clean, breakfast included delicious pain au chocolat, and the attached pub had an excellent food and drink menu. Super ales and wine. Location was perfect with several scenic loops on the door step. Staff were welcoming and helpful. Wifi not reliable...

The best place to stay for adventuring out on to the peak district. Castleton etc. The rooms are very spacious ( nr. 5) although you have to close the window early morning for traffic noise. Food at the pub is very good.

I was visiting for the weekend and needed a stop over. I was worried that it is near to the road on the corner of a T junction. Thick walls and double glazing kept any traffic noise out. Nice building Food .... standard gastro pub - steak / hunters chicken / burger etc but staff very helpful and pleasant.....especially when...

My husband and I have just spent the weekend here. Bed was comfortable, room was a good size, shower was hot with good pressure. The room was next to a main road but was really well soundproofed so you wouldn't know. Also it's a main road in the Peak District- they're not particularly busy. Continental breakfast was included- nice selection....

An excellent stay while working with the National Trust for a couple of days. Very comfortable room, good food, good beer and very friendly staff. Couldn't have asked for more at £35 B&B on the winter deal.

Last week at short notice we booked 1 night BB at the Foxhouse inn --inn keepers lodge. We were greeted by a friendly man who booked us in and showed us to our room. The room was lovely and had a fabulous view, with a settee and complimentary tea and coffee. High quality room, comfy bed, woke to a spectacular...

Had read reviews and were having second thoughts but could not fault our stay at all. We were shown to our room and were told if there was anything we wanted not to hesitate but ask. The room had everything one wanted. A very large shower with hot water. The continental breakfast far exceeded our expections.

We have just returned from staying here for two nights. We were in Room 5 - a lovely room upstairs. Yes it's a bit tedious bringing luggage through pub/restaurant and through a courtyard to room but it's ok! The room itself was cosy and comfortable and we found it really pleasant. Dinner on the first night was lovely - service...

We felt this this pub with rooms was really too expensive for what they offer. The pub has lovely old features and is, no doubt, a popular drinking place but it is a bit grubby. Breakfast was odd, we paid extra for the full English but had to find someone to ask for it. Poor coffee and basic ingredients. The...

I have never been more confused about a hotel I have stayed in , hence the "sit on the fence " average score. To be positive first, the staff were really friendly, the setting was lovely & the food & drink were excellent, the beds were comfy with excellent tea/coffee making facilities so why only a 3 star rating from...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Just three miles from the historic village of Hathersage, this charming country lodge dates back to 1773 and is one of the cosiest hotels in the Peak District. What's more, it's only a short drive from Sheffield and Chesterfield. The lodge, which you'll find within the Longshaw estate, offers 9 comfy, characterful rooms, a menu of hearty, seasonally inspired food, and a wide range of regularly changing cask-ales and well-chosen wines. Longshaw is a lovely place with many hidden gems: spectacular views, ancient oak woods, sleepy meadows, heather moorland, archeological treasures and millstone quarries. Locals will proudly tell you that it's also home to the oldest continuous sheep-dog trials in the country. If you've brought your walking boots, head for Hathersage - a great place to start your exploration of the area's intriguing rock formations. The area is a haven for walking and climbing, but it's also a popular with swimmers. That's because it's lucky enough to have its own heated outdoor swimming pool, set within a lawned enclosure and usually open from March through to September. There are plenty more pursuits to keep you busy, with Chatsworth House, Sheffield Botanical Gardens, Sheffield Ski Village and the ancient village of Eyam all on the doorstep. ... more   less
