This historic building is just over the road from the Oxford Union on St. Michael’s Street. It is a minute’s walk, or less, from the main shopping streets, Cornmarket and George Street, but none of the city bustle intrudes within the solid walls of this majestic building. The railway station is about 10 minutes walk or so. With a supremely...

We spent one night in Oxford at the beautiful Vanbrugh House Hotel. England being England prices are not cheap, especially if you want something special. If you want to stay in the heart of Oxford this hotel is ideal. We had a lovely suite. Rooms are not necessarily big but the decor was beautiful and the bathroom was stunning. What...

My husband and I decided to try The Vanbrugh House Hotel for lunch today, as the set menu looked interesting and reasonably priced. We were shown downstairs to the Restaurant by a friendly chap on Reception. However, we then encountered the worst waitress I have ever met. We asked her if there was an A La Carte menu as well...

This hotel is nice enough. Be warned, internet connection is appalling: I've had better in rural Asia. Although the street itself is quiet you may get noise from the Oxford Union opposite. Rooms are small and rather cramped. We had a suite which was a separate box room. The bathroom doesn't have a bath but an excellent walk-in shower. There...

We called in for lunch only. The quality of the food and the service were excellent. Our waiter, Jay, was professional yet friendly and efficient. A much better place to go than most chain restuarants in Oxford.

Whether you like this hotel or not obviously depends on what is important to you, so here are the pros and cons from our visit: Good things: The hotel is a beautiful period property, with high ceilings and Georgian windows. It is slap bang in the centre of town and is a very brief walk to the shops, colleges, restaurants...

The hotel is in a great location (in the middle of it all, but down a side street so there is no street noise). the hotel staff are nice, the rooms are a bit on the small size with a lovely bathroom and double paned windows to keep out external noise. However this being I assume converted houses, you hear...

We spent one night at the Vanbrugh Hotel, the service was excellent, our room was very nice, and food we had for breakfast was excellent! We would highly recommend the Vanbrugh Hotel ! Only issue was parking, which we found about 3 blocks away.

My family and I stayed there for my graduation. The hotel is centrally located in Oxford city center and the rooms are well-appointed and comfortable. The breakfast was hot and filling and the staff were attentive to my requests.

This is a lovely old building (you can tell the age by the slope of the floors in the corridors and bedroom!) in the heart of Oxford, just off the pedestrianized shopping street. I was thoughtfully given a back room on the top floor to avoid any noise disturbance from late-night revellers on the street but, unfortunately, there was a...
