Lovely hotel close to city centre, 10 minutes taxi just £5. We had a superior room which was larger than we normally would book as rate was very good. Shame we only had one night as wanted to see as much of Oxford as possible including taking a visit to the Mini factory in Cowley as well. Very clean room,...

My friend and I booked in at reception when we arrived and we were shown to some sofas by a fire at the bottom of some stairs in what I would call the lobby. A lady came over to ask us if we would like tea or coffee, no offer of tea variety as you would normally get with a...

I'm upset to write this review really but feel I must. We have just got back from staying at Hawkwell House. We were travelling with an 87 year old Aunt who is very infirm. I had made a request to the Hotel at the time of booking - which was some time ago - to ask for the rooms to...

This was a Retirement gift from the workplace. Wow, what a delightful place to spend it. Angelique was first class in her attendance, helpfulness when there was a query on the food alergy (as was the chef), always there with a smile and asking if we required anything more and we had a lot of laughter. Nothing was too much...

Booked a last minute hotel in the area without reading any reviews and was very pleasantly surprised. I was welcome by a very friendly receptionist, room was a good size and clean. Food was excellent and waitress was great, really friendly and personable. Only reason for not giving full rating is bed was uncomfortable and felt that room could have...

Stayed here with my family over the christmas period, as we were visiting relatives who live in the Oxford area. The hotel was clean, the rooms were medium sized, well maintained and the hotel food was of a good standard. The staff were helpful and attentive. We received a wonderful ' 'Christmas basket' complete with fruit, chocolate and wine on...

My partner and I travelled down from Harrogate and found this lovely retreat! I have to say the food was outstanding! One of the best meals I have had for a long time and excellent value for money! I don't say this lightly as I have eaten in many prestigious Michelin establishment and I take my hat off and would...

We were seated in the restaurant which was a nice area, modern decoration. We had booked sparkling afternoon tea for four. The were three finger sandwiches each: egg, salmon and cream cheese, ham and mustard. Could have done with another. The cakes were disappointing - a miniature éclair (one bite), a small bakewell tart which was cut into four (another...

Pleasant reception staff; comfy room, nicely decorated; very good breakfast; restaurant absolutely outstanding for dinner (see separate review). Looking at other reviews it seems we had a more positive experience than some, but we had nothing to complain about and would definitely stay there again, albeit mainly for the restaurant.

The oddest place I have ever stayed in - a few exceptional staff members (night duty manager, one of the receptionists) are somehow undermined by ''could not care less' attitude of other staff. Breakfast service deserves a separate mention - only one person has awareness about what is going on, the rest have no idea (order espresso - get seven...
