Just had two really pleasant night at the seahorse, the beer was spot on and the landlord was friendly and helpful. The icing on the cake was no tv in the bar or longe just old fashioned conversation! That's worth an extra 10 pence a pint, but being a Sam Smiths put the drink would still have been a good...

Stayed for one night and had an enjoyable stay. Old pub with separate small rooms each with a roaring coal fire. The bathroom was spotless and the hot water was instant and very hot. The bathroom sink was on the small side with a shelf above which made it a little difficult. Comfy bed, traditional furniture, warm room but a little noisy as...

After a long wait served lovely sole barman. Shockingly rude manager wouldn't smell his off beer before telling me it was 'fine mate' People queuing for drinks left before they got served the wait was so long. My beer so sour I could smell it from the bar. I was refused a fresh pint. 45 minute wait for food and...

The quirky nature/antiquated look of the bars is endearing. But room 103 is to be avoided at all costs - situated above a boiler room it kept us awake all night as the drone every 10 minutes woke us up and it made the room vibrate.

This is a Sam Smiths pub and, therefore, one of the cheapest drinking establishments in York. Although situated outside the walls it is 200 yards from the Barbican Centre and has an excellent Indian Restaurant next door. My wife and I often use the Seahorse for a "pre-theatre" or "pre-curry" drink and have never been disappointed. The hand-pull bitter is...

Rude staff, bad decor, bad food. will definitely not be returning. Manager acted like he was better than everyone but was quite the opposite. Very disappointing. Extremely upset with the quite frankly awful manners of the staff.

A lovely find just outside the City Wall with only a five minute walk into the town centre. We were greeted after paying and putting our cases into out rooms with a lovely coal fire where we enjoyed a pint. The bedrooms were warm and comfortable with en suite. In the morning the breakfast was lovely and vegetarian sausages available....

Nice comfortable room right across the road from the Barbican - we didn't drink here as we made a beeline for the Rook & Gaskill as they have better beers there but the room was very good although ours had no hairdryer and breakfast was good - small car park which was full at 3pm - overnight at the Barbican...

A lovely, friendly Inn on the edge of the city. An easy walk into the centre and the Barbican theatre is less than 5 minutes walk. Good sized rooms, clean and tidy. No TV in the room but that's a plus point for me. Excellent wifi. This is a second visit which speaks for itself.
