What a treat to stay in this historic hotel. Whilst your digs are impressive the vibe is casual with lots of quiet nooks and crannies to curl up with a book, glass of wine or just someone you love. Devine garden that gives you direct access to the city walls. Good food and charming rooms. So central to every sight...

We were so looking forward to this. The hotel looks lovely and is tucked away behind the Minster. I went in to book a table and was shown a lovely space. We turned up but no one was at reception so we went and sat in the correct area. Table was dirty, the glass needle a good wipe. Finally a...

I'm very sorry to read this. I need to look into things further but there are certainly some points that I can address now. With regards to the reception area, we are a very small hotel and sometimes the receptionist will be away from their desk, which appears to have been the case. We do have a large bell on...

My husband and I picked Gray's Court for a three night stay because of it's history and location. We couldn't have been happier with our choice. The building itself is just magnificent and the furnishings lovely. The garden in the back is beautiful and a delightful place to have lunch or just sit and relax with a drink. Our room...

Thank you very much for your review. Regrettably we are not permitted to have any elevators due to our Grade-1 listed status, but we do try to make everyone aware of this before booking. We do take all reviews very seriously, so I apologise for the lack of a new menu in your room but I'm very happy that in...

This is a lovely find, right by the Old City walls in York. The Minster bells do not ring before 8 AM so you can be sure of a peaceful night. Our room was well appointed and quite spacious. The hand held shower was fierce enough to need to be properly directed to avoid soaking the entire bathroom! Excellent breakfast...

Please be advised that Grays Court Hotel judges the size of your dog before deciding if it is allowed to stay. Having spoken with Rhianna today it is quite clear that dogs are in fact most unwelcome unless they are (and to quote) only the size of a Yorkshire terrier. Any dog which is larger than a small terrier, regardless...

Dear Terri, I was surprised to see your review because you did not stay with us in October or at any other time. You called because you wanted to book a room, and then berated first my receptioninist Holly and then my daughter Rhiannon because we were not willing to accommodate your two Staffordshire Bull Terriers. We are very dog...

A beautiful Hotel in the heart of York in a quiet setting close to the Minster and the town centre. We stayed in the Edwards room which was wonderful. Fantastic restaurant, bar, library, garden and all round ambience. We can't wait to return.

My husband and I have just experienced the great privilege of having stayed 2 nights at this magnificent hotel. Nestled behind, and in view of the York Minster, this historical building was, fairly recently, turned into a small hotel for those folk who recognise class and who want to experience something special for a short time in their lives. Wow,...

This is a unique tripadvisor review for me as I have never actually stayed overnight at Grays Court but experienced its individual charm and magnetism for over four years as a student at St John's College in the late 1970s. I returned yesterday after over 35 years and, after previous attempts to enter a building which had become run down...

What a wonderful review, and one that cements our decisions to take on Grays Court back in 2005. It has been a huge project but very much a labour of love transforming it into what we have today, and I'm so happy that you were able to revisit such a significant part of your past, and that you feel we've...

Thank you for your feedback and I'm so happy that you enjoyed your trip down memory lane. I'm sorry that you were able to pick up on the kitchen outgoings - it was rather a fish-orientated menu that night if I recall! Best wishes, Helen
