This hotel is literally couple hundred metre walk from the Monk Gatehouse.... met by one of the services staff on arrival who was just lovely and welcoming... she explained the hotel doesnt have front desk staff as such and pointed out phone numbers for any after hours issues, she needn't have bothered though as we had no issues. Large room,...

I booked this hotel quite late as I only wanted to stay for one night to visit my son on a weekend and was finding nearly all the hotels wanted a minimum 2 night stay. The Cavalier didn't which was most helpful. I initially booked a single room but on arrival Julia, who was lovely and very helpful, said she...

Nice people room very nice clean and well looked after, will be going back. Walking distance to pubs loads of places to eat within a short distance. And not far from rail station. Also close to two supermarkets.

We came to York looking for a place to stay for the night and found the cavalier to have vacancies. Julia was very accommodating and we go at a room with three beds. Rooms are clean but are very outdated and could do with modernising. The walls are paper thin. You can hear a cough or a sneeze through them....

Ideally situated with easy access into town. Caretaker couple were very nice and easygoing. Room Decor needs a bit of updating but very clean. Lovely smell of breakfast cooking as you come downstairs in the morning.

I've stayed here a few times when I have early trains and now that Julia, the owner, has switched to room only I am really happy. I think room only is a great move as you can then choose where when and what to eat for breakfast. If you are wanting breakfast there are lots of lovely places within 5...

Spent two nights here recently for an annual jolly-boys-and-girls-outing. There were three of us and we were given the family room on the top floor - two double beds, one single, and en-suite facilities. The place is comfortable and clean and the proprietors friendly (in that unique, dry Yorkshire way) and the breakfast was excellent. It's also perfectly located a...

We booked the Cavalier back in October for a pre Christmas weekend break. It's in a great location and the caretaker staff who are running it up to Christmas were very friendly, helpful and so nice. The breakfast is very plentiful with a limited choice. However they do try to accommodate all your requirements. We had a family room with...

Stayed here for 2 nights. My friend and I shared a triple room with a single and a double bed. The room was clean and very spacious. Bathroom was clean and modern, and the shower cubicle was a good size. Breakfast is the usual full English, although they do offer variations of this, the second morning I had scrambled egg,...

Like some other reviewers I'll start with the positive. We booked this particular guest house for its location, it was spot on for that as we were attending a wedding in Grays court. We also needed to keep within a budget as we needed 4 rooms all ensuite and 3 of those needed to be twin rooms. Again that was...
