Booked over 8 months prior to visit when reviews were positive along the lines of good value for money, friendly welcoming staff, rooms small but clean, great location. Something has changed drastically as reflected in most reviews since january 2017. Our experience though not as bad as some and for only one night was not good. On the plus side...

We came to York in a large group for a friends birthday, our room was one of the worst with mould and dirt in the shower and bathroom, not what you want when you just want to freshen up for a night out. The room was freezing and when we pulled back the duvet there were, what looked like pubic...

Late Xmas present, room nothing like above photo, dirty carpet, torn wallpaper, 3/4 metal frame bed, no duvet, no tv - owner said we could borrow hers when her partner returned - door to room difficult to open even for owner, screeching air con in tiny shower room, metal hangers on rail. All this luxury for only £67 food excluded!...

Booked the watergate inn a few months back and was a slight worry about staying after reading some of the reviews on here but definitely wasn't as bad as some make out. Firstly the good points the hotel room was clean, we recieved fresh towels, toiletries and tea/coffee and the room had hot running water. The staff were friendly on...

First of all I would class this accommodation more as a bed and breakfast than a hotel. We arrived and found the last parking space which was a bonus. The car park was clean and secure so that is a major bonus. On the downside the room, although clean and tidy, was extremely basic. There was no mirror with which...

Stayed at the Watergate Inn from Friday to Sunday with my girlfriend in late February and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. On our arrival we were greeted by the hotels manager Chell and made to feel immediately welcome. Other than an initial mix up with our room key, the Hotel and bar surpassed our expectations given what we had read...

We don't expect much and we are definitely not fussy travellers but this is the poorest accommodation we have stayed in. Paper-thin walls, extremely noisy bathroom facilities that we weren't warned about. Poor decor in entrance areas gives a bad first impression. Warning not to put sanitary products in toilet but no bathroom bin provided. Very thin mattress and old...

Probably the worst place I've ever stopped in. Rooms old and dirty. Towels old and threadbare. No hot water . No maid service. Even the pub connected to the place is uninviting and empty . Pub staff were fighting outside the pub late one night . We had a lovely time in York but please avoid this place at all...

Currently in bed at this hotel listening to a foul mouth young woman and I presume her boyfriend having an almighty row at the smoking shed right outside our room. Sounds like wild animal screaming so don't want to go out and get involved but can hear it over t.v in our room. Room not good for money £75 a...
