My experience of the hotel started when i rang to enquire about rooms for later in the year -and ended up booking one for the following evening- Frederica was so helpful. My friend and I experienced the best check in ever at this hotel. We were met by the gorgeous Ivan, who was utterly charming and so helpful. The concierge,...

Well, the web-site looks fine and the building is also a very handsome and well maintained. I am sure that back in 1850 a great hotel experience was there to enjoy. However, here is another example of businesses masquerading as a high-end/premium experience but which fall very short on delivery. Its presentation over substance when the world's consumers want both....

A lovely hotel, friendly and efficient staff, beautiful bedroom, good bar and really well located. My only concern is the spa which really is quite poor. One shower only, that requires a button to be constantly pressed in order to work; no control for hot and cold. Silly. A sauna with a large glass door faces the pool, so sitting...

Our 2 night stay was a mixed experience, it was a special deal shortly into the new year and was good value. If we had payed full price I would have felt disappointed. There are some very good aspects, firstly being just a few minutes walk from the train station The Grand is fantastically convenient if you arrive by train...

From arriving at the hotel to leaving 2 days later we received absolutely top notch treatment from all the staff. Everyone was so helpful, knowledgeable and professional. They all went the extra mile and genuinely wanted to ensure we enjoyed our stay. It was so refreshing and the staff seemed so interested in making the hotel a success. A very...

The hotel has been around for a while, but remodeling has taken place. The doors to the room are enormous, there were two bathrooms for our king size bedroom, large tub (hard to get in and out of tub). The hotel is in walking distance from everything in York and workers were very informative. One room could easily be made...

This was the second time we had a mini break at The Grand as a January treat, and if anything we enjoyed it even more. Staff are very welcoming and down to earth in their humour and advice, the best bit being advice to try the Tasting menu at Hudson's restaurant- see separate review for that. The hotel is a...

A great hotel. We booked one of the big executive rooms for a special occasion two night stay. Very spacious and well appointed. The room could not be faulted and the difference from a standard hotel room is wonderful. The bed was mega-comfortable. The hotel as a whole is splendid. It deserves its five star rating. Breakfast was really excellent....

Our room on arrival had an aroma of sewage which was coming up from the shower outlet. The maintenance department were however able to clear it ,but we would have expected a 5 Star hotel to have noticed and correct this before our arrival. Our room also overlooked an active building site accompanied by the usual noises for which we were...

Dear foxmoor, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review for The Grand Hotel & Spa. Naturally, I was disappointed to learn that your first impressions of our hotel were marred by the maintenance issue in your room.
