We return repeatedly to the Duke of York when in Whitby. The food is very good and consists of Yorkshire Portions, so be prepared for a hearty meal! Ranging from fresh sandwiches to the highly recommended steak pie, there is something for everyone. Our recent visit just was no different and it is one of our favourite places to eat...

We stayed in 2 of the rooms at the Duke of York. Both were immaculately clean (excellent cleaner) and it is apparent the owners are decorating and updating fixtures and fittings - good quality bed linen and towels. Good hospitality trays and the rooms are comfortable with double beds and settees. The landlady Laura was lovely and took on board...

We came to see Whitby in its full glory for the Goth weekend and to see family. The hotel didn't disappoint. The staff were so helpful and friendly and just couldn't do enough for us. Very well kept clean rooms and all round great service. It's certainly great value for money especially for its central location and it's amazing views...

We have been regular visitors here for the last thirty years for meals, sometimes its has been good other times not so good. This time we visited on a Thursday night and all of us had an excellent meal. From past experience it is good here if you come out of peak season, particularly mid week. We have never stayed...

The bedrooms overlooked the harbour and our ground floor rooms opened direct onto the area near the jetty. We couldn't have asked for a better location. The room was well furnished and the bed comfortable. There is no breakfast in the pub but we were recommended a local cafe which served a good hearty breakfast. The pub itself serves good...

The welcome was not very good, a tall young man didn't seem interested that we had a room booked for 4 nights, and offered me no assistance. There was no reception area to go to so I went to see if my husband could have better luck I think it was maybe the owner he saw as she came out to the...

Stayed at DOY last year & really enjoyed our stay so popped back on our way home from Redcar for just one night. Had room 4 again with lovely harbour view. Room nice size, comfortable bed, good shower, very clean & soft towels, excellent value for money @ £65 a night. Shame they don't offer breakfast, that would be good....

Located at the bottom of the 199 steps leading up to St Marys churchyard on the East side of the Esk, the Duke of York is a wonderful pub and b&b serving great food, excellent beers and with stunning views of Whitby and the West Cliff. A great place to stop off either before heading up the steps, or a...

We were in Whitby for a day. We needed sustenance before climbing the 199 steps to the abbey and the Duke of York was in the perfect location, at the bottom of the steps. The blackboard outside stated that there was a harbour view so we headed in. We found a seat in the back room, with harbour views. We...
