Stayed for 2 nights Monday and Tuesday, what a find! excellent hotel and staff could not do enough for you. The room was nice, clean and comfortable, the evening meal was top notch and the waitress great. The morning breakfast superb also. In the upstairs living room a lovely fire for guests to sit by while drinking the Gin menu....

Quirky hotel located in the heart of old town Whitby. Rooms are modern and comfortable and staff are friendly and accommodating, we were upgraded to a king room which was a lovely welcome touch and we would gladly return when next visiting this wonderful town.

A wonderful, slightly mysterious place full of character. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the room spotless. Breakfast was excellent; I hate kippers, but my friend rated them delicious, and the porridge was the best I have ever had. parking was a tad tricky, but the hotel more than made up for it.

There's no shortage of pubs in Whitby but the White Horse is a favourite. An old pub with long history and many original internal features including a great fire. The place does B&B and also has a great restaurant!

We walked in off the street but I'd advise to book (we were lucky) they were turning people away in droves. The setting is great, with a lovely atmosphere. The food was beautiful & well presented. We'll be going again now we habe discovered it. They catered for the little ones also.

If you want to stay in an historic and charm filled place in the heart of Whitby then look no further. I was so looking forward to spending time in The White Horse & Griffin as I have taken many photos of this building in various states of neglect over the years prior to it being reborn into the fabulous...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The White Horse & Griffin is an almost 450 year old Coaching Inn, the first built in Whitby to serve the route to London. Operating these days as a Restaurant with Rooms it is situated on an unspoilt cobbled shambles near the base of Whitby's famous 199 Abbey Steps. The building is technically on 3 floors but is actually on 7 different levels. It boasts 10 unique and quirky bedrooms full of history and character. The walls are bumpy, the stairs are narrow and the ceilings are low. The Bistro/ Restaurant is cosy and heated by an open fire. The food is outstanding with the signature dishes (such as the Seafood Meze for 2 & the Fillet Sharing Platter) saying much about the place - great quality, great quantity, designed for sharing and, as with much in life, you get what you are prepared to pay for. The WH&G is best suited to couples and groups who want to get away, eat great food, drink good wine, meet new people, join in with the atmosphere and then retire to a hand-made bed with a hand stuffed mattress to regroup before a chef-cooked breakfast. As well as a comprehensive English Breakfast choices in the morning also include Fortune's Kippers, Smoked Haddock, Kedgeree, Scrambles, Omlettes, Fresh Fruits and Honeyed Porridge. A major benefit is that the heart of unspoiled North Yorkshire and its Coast is outside the front door in either walking or steam train distance. ... more   less
