Nestled high above the city, Shangri-La The Shard, London garners overwhelming admiration for its meticulous service and sophisticated atmosphere. The hotel's prime location is a boon for guests eager to explore nearby attractions and enjoy local dining.
Its rooms, complete with modern elegance and awe-inspiring views, receive high marks, although some guests mention noise and additional charges. Despite mixed feelings on value, the hotel's spotless cleanliness and indulgent amenities, including the infinity pool and afternoon tea, contribute to its luxurious allure.

My family and I stayed here in room 3801 (the "London Suite") for four nights in July 2023 and again in room 3701 (the "Westminster Suite") for four nights in July 2024. I have stayed here three other times previously.
Rating: 9/10
Positives: • Jaw-dropping views – I don't know of any hotel in the world where you can perch yourself in an internationally renowned skyscraper and enjoy views of multiple world famous landmarks from floor-to-ceiling windows. You can literally sightsee from the comfort of your own room. • Maximum comfort and cleanliness – the beds and furniture are top-of-the-line and the blackout curtains don't let a speck of light in, allowing us to beat jet lag with ease • Excellent food and drink – almost everything we ordered from the Asian-inspired room service was phenomenal (albeit pricey) • There is a gym and an infinity pool on the 52nd floor from which to further take in the dramatic views of London • For the overall quality and once-in-a-lifetime experience, I have consistently found Shangri-La The Shard worth its high prices
Negatives: • Prices are increasing – my most recent visit ended up costing about twice as much per night as my previous visit, severely threatening the value proposition • Following the lead of other London hotels, the Shangri-La has implemented a 5% discretionary service charge per night. I'd expect these fees to be baked into the room rates, especially at the top tier. • I wouldn't be staying in Southwark if it wasn't for the location of this hotel although The Shard is still convenient to access via the London Bridge tube station

Dear Kevin, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your detailed feedback and for your continued loyalty to Shangri-La The Shard. We’re delighted to hear that both of your stays in our London Suite and Westminster Suite were memorable experiences. It’s fantastic to know that the views, comfort, and cleanliness of our rooms, along with our food and drink offerings, have contributed to your positive experiences with us. We are especially pleased to hear that you found our gym and infinity pool on the 52nd floor to be highlights of your stay. We genuinely appreciate your candid feedback regarding the price increases and the discretionary service charge. We understand that these factors are important to our guests and we strive to provide clear and transparent communication about all charges. Your comments are invaluable and will be shared with our management team as we continuously review our pricing and service policies to ensure we offer the best possible value and experience. We’re sorry to hear that the location of Southwark was less convenient for you. We’re glad, however, that you found The Shard and its proximity to London Bridge tube station helpful. Thank you once again for your kind words and constructive feedback. We look forward to welcoming you back for another exceptional stay in the future. Best regards, Kurt Macher General Manager

Finally had the opportunity to stay at the Shangri-La and it didn’t disappoint. It’s incredibly easy to find, a couple of escalators from London Bridge Station, a quick scan of our cases and we were in the lift heading to reception. Check in was slick, we received confirmation of an upgrade and breakfast included courtesy of our booking with Expedia, and we were then on our way to the 42nd floor and our room. The room wasn’t huge, although a decent size for London, but was exceptionally well equipped with a fantastic view towards Tower Bridge and Canary Wharf. It was beautifully sound proofed, not a hint of noise from other rooms or the trains below. We had drinks at Gong, which was great once we’d adjusted to the low seating, and then dinner at Oblix. Note, you can’t access this from the hotel, so it’s a ride down the elevators to street level, a queue to be allowed back in to the building, and then an elevator back up, took 20 mins unbelievably to end up 2 floors away from where we started. Breakfast was fantastic. It’s clearly not cheap to stay at the Shangri-La and we felt the discretional 5% service charge added to our bill was pushing the boundary a little, and is likely the only thing that would make me think about staying again.

Wall-to-wall luxury! From the moment we arrived, every detail of our stay felt thoughtfully curated to make it special. Little touches like slippers left by the bed, complimentary treats, and even tidying our personal items when we went to dinner made us feel so well cared for. Yes, it’s on the pricier side, but the service is truly exceptional and absolutely worth every penny. A perfect choice for a memorable and indulgent stay—highly recommended!

Stayed one night. Great location and service but not worth the price. Did not get full experience as foggy though so experience is probably reliant on the weather. Did put a discretionary room service charge on bill- felt a little cheeky as expensive enough. Never had that at Cliveden, Langham’s Pennyhill Park etc.

I’m delighted to hear that you appreciated our great location and service, although I regret that the foggy weather limited your experience. Regarding the service charge, I’d like to clarify that it is a common practice in many five-star hotels, including ours, and is intended to reflect the level of care provided by our team. Stayed here for our anniversary and birthday we took our 2 year old. We booked via amex and got a lovely upgrade the rooms are a great size and the views are stunning. Check in was good our room had a few issues these were dealt with and we were given half bottle of champagne which felt a bit cheap considering we were also celebrating 2 events. The breakfast was fabulous and the staff attentive especially to our daughter. We stayed for 2 nights and would stay again it was great location and needs were met I did find the childrens menu limited and no children's buffet at breakfast. Ting drinks were great and sky lounge service fantastic

For a hotel of this calibre I got extremely unlucky.
I recently had the occasion to stay at the Shangri-La London to celebrate my birthday, having stayed at numerous world-renowned hotels over the years. Given the reputation of the Shangri-La brand and the hotel’s striking design, I had high expectations for what was to be a memorable experience. While the property itself is indeed visually stunning, and the views of London are nothing short of spectacular, my stay was unfortunately marred by several significant issues that, for the price point of £1,000 per night, were entirely unacceptable.
First and foremost, the noise insulation between rooms was profoundly inadequate. Throughout the night, we were subjected to a level of disturbance from the adjacent room that was wholly disproportionate to the luxury one would expect at a hotel of this calibre. Even the most casual conversations from next door were audible as if the occupants were in our own room, and the situation escalated into shouting and screaming well into the early hours. Given the premium rate we were paying, I did not expect this, me & my wife had the worst possible night. Even after breakfast they were still at it, the hotel could complain and say the couple’s argument was not their fault but our room had no noise insulation, they were literally talking and felt as if they were next to us.
Compounding this disappointment was the handling of our complaint. Upon checking out, we shared our grievances with the staff, and as a gesture of goodwill, we were offered a waiver for the £42 mini-bar charge. While I appreciated the gesture, it seemed a rather token compensation considering the extent of the disruption we had endured. However, the situation took a further turn for the worse later that evening at night when I noticed a charge of £42 had been processed on my American Express account, despite the earlier assurance that it would be waived.
When I called the hotel to address the discrepancy, my initial call went unanswered, and on the second attempt, I was promised that someone from the reception team would respond. After a lengthy wait, I was eventually able to reach a member of the reception staff, who apologised for the mistake and assured me the charge would be refunded. While the matter was eventually resolved, the entire experience left me with a sense of frustration. The juxtaposition of a so-called "gesture of goodwill" with the late-night charge felt disingenuous, especially when the refund process was so delayed and cumbersome. For someone paying over a £1,000 a night the £42 was not breaking the bank but rather a false promise followed by a late night payment for this, very sly.
In conclusion, while the Shangri-La London boasts undeniable aesthetic appeal and offers remarkable views of the city, the experience was undermined by significant lapses in both service and comfort. One would expect a level of attention to detail and customer care that was sorely lacking. The noise disturbances and the unsatisfactory resolution of our complaint not only diminished our enjoyment but also left a lasting impression of discontent. It is regrettable, as the hotel possesses much potential, I hope management is able to see this and rectify the horrible night I had at their hotel.

Dear Tuejar, Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed account of your recent stay at Shangri-La London. First and foremost, I would like to sincerely apologize for the disruptions and the issues you encountered during your visit, particularly during such a special occasion as your birthday celebration. The noise disturbances you described are entirely unacceptable and do not align with the high standards of comfort and luxury we strive to deliver. I am deeply sorry that this significantly impacted your experience. Additionally, the handling of your complaint, including the confusion surrounding the minibar charge, is far from the level of care and professionalism we aim to provide. Our Guest Engagement Manager will be reaching out to you shortly to gather further details of your booking. This will allow us to conduct a thorough internal investigation into the matters you raised and ensure that steps are taken to prevent such issues from recurring in the future. Once again, please accept my sincerest apologies for the shortcomings during your stay. We value your feedback immensely and are committed to addressing these concerns with urgency and care. Wishing you and your loved ones a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future and provide an experience that reflects the true essence of Shangri-La. Best regards, Kurt Macher General Manager

Exceeded all of our expectations!! One tip; when booking into the pool ensure you do not book a 'child friendly' time if you are looking to enjoy a quiet swim with a view. Would also highly recommend pre-booking for the Bar on the top floor (52nd floor) - when we arrived the only available slot was 11pm, which didn't suit us. The concierge team will happily store your luggage in good time before check-in (we took ours at 11am so we could explore the city) and will deliver to your room upon check-in. Overall, however, the experience was worth the elevated prices compared to 'lesser' hotels, and would highly recommend booking!

Everything about this stay was excellent. there are few entrerances to the building: the offices (?), the hotel and the restaurants that are not part of the hotel. at the enterance you will be asked for your luggage to be scanned. then you will go to the 35th floor to check in at the reception. The receptionist called Ting was extra helpful. She showed us a room and explained where to find everything. The views from the hotel and from the room are fantastic. Customer service is exceptional. Breakfast was included and it was a high standard with good choice. However, the bacon was too crispy (too dry) for me, but everything else was great. All staff helped effortlessly. Visiting a spa is included in the hotel price. it would be nice also to have jacuzzi and steam room, but everything else was great. Staff at the spa were extra assertive ( the gentlman was waiting near the pool just to pass a towel to you when you get out of the pool). Small details to everything including extra solf flooring (probably extra soft layer under the carpet), binoculars, complementary cake, teas/coffes and toiletries, room cleaning twice a day. There were lots of Chinees New Year decorations. I can imaging how beutiful place was for Christmas and New Year and how amazing it will be for the Valentine's Day. We forgot something at the room. So huge Thank you to housekeeping and security team for sorting out the missing items to be sent back to us. Definitely coming back! Definitely recommending!

We had a fantastic family stay at the Shangri-La The Shard London. Service was exceptional from the concierge, reception staff (who were very helpful), pool attendant and room service. Our interconnecting rooms had a phenomenal view over Tower Bridge and the Financial District; watching the sun set and the city night lights come on was a truly memorable experience from such a great vantage point. The rooms were high-tech and spotless with wonderfully soft and luxurious bath towels a super-comfy bed and sheets. Room service food was delicious, arrived promptly and was beautifully cooked. I tried the signature Asian rice and Beef which was the best I have ever tasted. We booked a swim in the infinity pool and enjoyed the Sauna. I all it was probably the best experience I have had staying in London, we shall certainly return. Dr J Rhodes

This is the second time we have stayed at the shard, first was in 2021 when four of us shared a premier suite, it was fabulous, this time 6 shared two city deluxe view rooms, we messaged if they could be interconnecting and if one could be a twin, so our sons were not sharing same bed. None of this could be done!!! We did get rooms next to each other and they did set up one of the king beds as a German bedding setup so we were ok with that. The rooms were still lovely but there is a definite drop in space and luxury when you have to ‘downgrade’. Views as usual superb. The rooms in the evening however whilst you were trying to sleep were unbelievable noisy whether it was the fans or the structure itself but it was noisy. Staff as always are a credit to the hotel, nothing and i mean nothing is too much for them. Particular mention must go to Helga on breakfast service in the Ting restaurant she was amazing. Talking about breakfast the Bircher muesli and fruit was delicious as was the coffee, although it was not hot. the bacon, sausage, mushrooms and beans not so good they were barely warm and the bacon very, very tough. The pool was also cool, but both staff in their were great and the sauna was fantastic. The shard is a lovely hotel in a great position if you want to go sightseeing and be away from the usual shopping districts. Would we stay again? No i think we are done with it now the extortionate room taxes on London hotels and the Shangri-La’s 5% ‘discretionary’ service charge on EACH room PER night is just a no for me, its just grabbing more of your hard earned money. I did question this and stated one of the rooms had not been serviced at all during our stay (our choice) so they did remove most of the charge, but that accompanied with costs of the minibar when there is no price list available in room, just taints it for me. The hotel i found was also a lot more formal and a little stuffy this time, whether this was down to a different clientele for the new year I don’t. Good stay but i can not see us visiting for 3rd time, unless management want to treat me!!!!

Dear Valued Guest, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback about your recent stay at Shangri-La The Shard, London. We’re pleased to hear that you found our staff exceptional and enjoyed the stunning views, along with your breakfast experience and the sauna. Helga will be delighted to know she made a positive impression during breakfast service. We would like to address some of the concerns you raised. The 5% service charge is indeed a common practice in five-star hotels worldwide, but we understand it can feel unnecessary, especially if a room wasn’t serviced by choice. As you noted, this charge is completely discretionary, and we’re glad to have addressed this for you during your stay. Regarding the minibar, the price list is available on the in-room TV for your convenience. We apologize if this wasn’t clear and will ensure our team communicates this better moving forward. Our Guest Engagement Manager has sent a private message to gather details of your booking so we can address your feedback more personally and ensure your concerns are fully reviewed. We’d love the opportunity to welcome you back and make your next visit even more enjoyable. Thank you once again for your feedback, and we wish you a wonderful 2025!
