Bottom line: Want to stay at a friendly place which is conveniently near central London without the central London prices? This is the place for you.
TOC is a down to earth, friendly pub/B&B. Patsy is a gracious hostess who immediately gives you her cell (mobile) number and encourages you to call anytime day or night if you need anything. The breakfast is continental. The rooms adequate and clean. But the biggest draw here is LOCATION. Highgate is a peaceful area with a quaint village-like atmosphere with a large, lovely park, Waterlow, and the Highgate Cemetery just a short walk away. The tube station (10 minute walk) gets you anywhere you want to go in London and beyond. It's nice to come back after a day of touring to the pub for a bite and a pint before going upstairs. BTW, we had no issues with pub noise since we stayed during the week. But the rooms ARE located above a pub and there are notices on its website (and in these reviews!). If you choose to ignore this, don't complain. We thought it was a fine place to stay.

A group of us went to the Old Crown for lunch on Monday 6th June. Having enjoyed a meal there the month before. On both occasions we were treated to good food well cooked and with excellent and friendly service .We don't live in the area but I am sure we will return when we are next in Highgate.

Not impressed. Stayed here for one night and was not at all happy on returning tired to our room that the pub (which seems to be a thin plywood wall away) had a 'retro' club night on - playing crappy music at full volume with no chance of sleep until the pub had cleared - around 1:30 am. This may be fine if you are staying out late but not for us. They should mention this when booking - the management said afterwards that we should expect a pub to be noisy - which is rubbish as we have stayed in many pubs which do not have this problem. It seems someone has build the hotel rooms themselves out of stud walling as the sound isolation is very poor. Our shower also did not work as it had a broken handle so I could not alter the temp. Our sheets were not clean with light brown stains (nice). I think this is my least enjoyable place i have ever stayed - years ago I stayed in many places in asia for a few pounds that did a better job of providing a bed to sleep in that here - I resent paying £70 just to feel annoyed. I would recommend against staying here. The one positive is the young staff were friendly on arrival. My main requirement for a hotel / inn is a quiet bed to sleep in. Im shocked by the high rating of this place

When we arrived I got told I needed to pay, even though I had already paid online, they then took my debit card and put it behind the bar and when I later asked for it back to go for food the young man struggled to give me it back without a argument. On our first night someone with a master key tried to come into our room at about 1 in the morning which woke me up. The room was mouldy, and the toilet paper was thinner than air. On the website it says you get free wi-fi, you don't. There was one employee on the bar with customers serving people too which was very unprofessional.

Stayed here recently with my partner while visiting my sister who lives in archway. The only thing this place has going for it is its location which is 5 mins walk up hill from archway underground. Before i continue i would just like to say i have never previously given a bad review. When we stepped in the door and were greeted by an unpleasant member of staff who tried to make us pay a second time for the room we booked, took ages for him to even understand we paid in full on booking.com and had emails to prove it. Later we entered the bar for a quiet drink that evening and were basically made to feel it would be best if we just left. Took at least 10 mins to get a drink each time as the staff had better things to do! ie talk to each other. Which brings me finally to the ladies toilet in the pub! It is just vile! I doubt it has ever been cleaned and the smell!

We stayed at the Old Crown Inn for 3 nights.
We were really disappointed as soon as we saw our room. The owner wanted the money as soon as we arrived without even seeing the room, and I can understand why.
The room was terrible, there wasn't air in it,the windows were sealed and couldn't be open, even in the bathroom the window couldn't be opened and there wasn't an aspirator.
There were two white towels that were grey instead of white because they were dirty.
The rest of the towels were black ( I cannot imagine how the black ones were!).The first night we had to use them and after a while we started scratching because of the itching! The day after we had to buy new towels.
The duvet of the beds were black and stained. The spare bed was with wheels and it kept moving all the night wich disturbed our sleep.
We couldn't watch the tv because the tv transmitter was attached to the wall with black tape which kept falling of the time.
The breakfast was continental, and she told us if we wanted the English breakfast we had to pay extra. The jam inside the jar was moldy, the only thing good was the toast.
The only positive things were the quiet area were the b&b was located and that it was a few minutes walk from Archway station. Our was a family room but it wasn't like the room shown amongst the photos of the other rooms on the website. We couldn't believe it when we saw our room.
This it wasn't the first b&b where we stayed and we always accepted everything, because we aren't demanding people but not in these bad condition.
Very disappointed.
The next time we will go to London we won't accommodate again in this b&b.

We chose this B&B to be close to the Church for a wedding. Very good location. Very reasonable price (for London). Breakfast was very generous and dinner even better! (I had a grilled halumi salad and my friend had a grilled Lamb). The staff are very kind.. we didn't need to get out the room as early as the other places, 3pm!! (perfect after a heavy night!) A big thumb up!!!
As a traveller I highly recommend this place and I wish all B&B/Hotels would be more like this!!

Can't recommend this place enough, Barmaid Kate was super friendly and made my stay a pleasure. She had great interaction with all the customers and went out of her way to help me. Would deff come back simply for the customer service, in fact will be returning later in the year and bringing friends.

Expensive for a room we were really not happy with, smelt musty and damp, bathroom had mould, everything unclean and tired, plus unable to sleep due to the racket below the room from the pub that was playing thumping music until 1am - would not recommend to anyone as you can get a much better place for less money elsewhere. Breakfast limited and no full english there! Staff tried to be helpful, but guessing they aren't looked after either and whoever owns and runs it doesn't care too much.
