There was nothing negative about this hotel, it was just nothing special. The staff were good, but the rooms were a little dated. I was also on the fifth floor which is directly under the bar, meaning that I had to endure the sound of chairs moving and footsteps until the early hours of the morning on both nights of...

My wife and I stayed four nights. We had chosen the hotel because it was one of the few very near to central London at a reasonable price. We were not disappointed. After an initial hiccup at reception we found our room acceptable, continental breakfast had variety, bar prices were acceptable and the staff throughout were cheerful and polite. We...

The hotel is within a few minutes' walk from London Bridge tube station. The Southbank is up and coming - we could see and feel the improvement from a former stay one year earlier. London bridge is lively at night with restaurants and bars, and the streets around the Tate, steadily gentrifying, are buzzing during the day as well. The...

Having stayed at Novotels in London previously we thought this time we would try the Southwark Rose (still part of Accor group) as it was slightly cheaper and included breakfast. On arrival staff on reception very friendly and helpful. Our room was on 5th floor, no traffic noise that we heard during the night. We thought electronic blinds were a...

How anybody could criticise this hotel is beyond me! The rooms are spacious with a comfortable kingsize bed, desk with two chairs, wardrobe and are really nicely fitted out. Bathroom good with terrific shower. Hotel is 2 minutes from the river and lots of bars and restaurants and 5 minutes from Tate Modern. We stay in London a lot to...

I stayed a couple of nights in the hotel in May. I would class the hotel to be on a par with the Premier Inn but that’s not a bad thing. The Hotel is on a busy road on the south side of the river, thankfully they have managed to soundproof the windows so that you can’t hear the road...

Another great find for a hotel offering rooms with day rates. At £60 it proves great value for money (check out is 5pm). About an 10 minute walk from London Bridge station. A little longer from Southwark station. Reception is large and inviting. Nice flowers and also a large platter of fresh pastries (what a nice touch!). Check in was...

This hotel was so welcoming. The staff were helpful and knowledgeable. Breakfast was included. The dining room was clean and the food was fresh, and perfect before a day of sight seeing. We were impressed with the nespresso machine in our room, and the small kitchenette. It was perfect for our family of four. Highly recommended!

Staying in Southwark

Neighbourhood Profile
Southwark
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighbourhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.
