The Travelodge London Kings Cross Royal Scot garners mixed reviews, with its location being praised for its convenience and ease of transport. However, guests frequently criticize the rooms for being outdated, unclean, and small, with a notable lack of amenities. The hotel's atmosphere is described as neglected, with an urgent need for refurbishment. While some guests commend the friendly staff, others are disappointed with service levels and noise issues that disrupt sleep. Opinions on value vary, as some appreciate the affordability, yet others are deterred by unexpected charges. Cleanliness remains a concern, with calls for more thorough maintenance.

Handily located near Kings Cross station, about 10 minutes walkm this is a budget hotel without the budget price tag – although it is cheap compared to the rest of London. Having stayed in other Travel Lodges, this one seems to have had a makeover, as the ground floor has a decent bar and restaurant area, although we did not opt to eat breakfast or dinner there.

The rooms are of course on the small side, and the bathroom barely has enough room to turn around in. Saying that, everything was clean, and the bed was surprisingly comfortable. Even though you must request cleaning (we didn’t) they still came in and changed the towels which we weren’t expecting. However the rooms do get very hot, and with no air-con, you either have to open the window and expect noise from the street or suffer.

The only real issue we had was with the key cards, as I lost count of the amount of times, we had to request our key card to be recharged which is very frustrating when you have to traipse all the way back down to reception to get this done. This seemed to be a common theme with other guests also.

Overall, with its central location, I would consider staying here again if the price was right.

We stayed for 2 nights in August, we are a family with young children so we booked 2 rooms so the children don’t disturb each other! I stayed in a single room with my baby (it had a double bed pushed against the wall and plenty of room for the cot), my husband and son had a twin room. Strangely, when I searched for a room for 1 adult and 1 child online, it only showed me a family room, but when I changed it to 2 adults it showed a twin room, which was cheaper!
Rooms had been recently decorated, beds were comfy and most things were clean although there were some marks/stains in the bathroom.
Rooms were very hot, I did risk leaving the window open during the night to let some air in and didn’t have too much noise coming from outside.
There was some noise from other guests, one night a group returned at about 3am but it didn’t last too long.
Breakfast was good, although it was very busy. Items were all stocked up and kids eat free.
The location of the hotel was one of the reasons we chose it, just a 10 minute walk to Kings Cross. The hotel stored our luggage when we arrived early on our first day, but later on there was a sign saying their storage was full so don’t rely on this.
Access for wheelchairs and prams was a bit odd, you had to be escorted down corridors and out of a fire escape, so we just carried our pram up and down the steps into the hotel.
Overall a good stay, although the lack of fans or air con would probably put me off staying in the summer months again.

We had a ground floor room due to me having bad knees and not able to use stairs in an emergency, the reception offered a lower room without us having to request it as she asked about emergency exit, maybe because I was walking with a stick when I came in. The room was a little dusty above the bed and had a few cobwebs in the corners but other than that not too bad, we didn't get fresh towels on our first night stay but put a request on the door to freshen the room up. As toilet roll n towels needed to be changed we are staying for a few nights. The towels were 3 different sizes small hand towel medium and a larger one. No glasses to rinse ur mouth after brushing you teeth. And most importantly no aircon at all on the ground floor. They leave a fan in the room but the plug is over near the tiny telly that isn't big enough for the room tbh when plugging the fan in u can't feel anything as it's too far away the usb plugs beside the bed is great. But no other plugs to use to bring the fan closer, we asked for an extension cable and was told they was for people with breathing machines. The aircon units in Reception and the restaurant do not work either I had to leave eating breakfast to sit near the doors as it was so humid I felt light headed. The hotel on the surface idnt too bad but needs money and work on it to be able to say it's got aircon very miss leading. It was a little walk from king cross which killed my legs tbh but my partner booked without looking at the distance. We paid for breakfast every day of our stay and was seated quickly on our first morning but questioned more on the 2nd morning. We wouldn't stay again as thd rooms are far too warm on the ground floor u cantbeven open a window for fresh air, I had a hand held fan plugged in on my face all night as well as leaving the fan on the desk left on day and night for our whole stay this didn't cool the room just circulated the warm air around.

A good positive about this hotel is that it’s only a 10 minute walk to Kings Cross Station and underground but that’s really the only positive I could think off.

Our room was barely clean and we’re informed that it is only cleaned more than once if you’re staying over 6 nights but we could request fresh towels whenever we needed. Initially, the hotel literature said we had to hang a “top up” card on the door but when we asked for this card at reception, we were told that the hotel is “too big” to have this facility but we can ask them for towels. The first time we did ask for fresh towels, they ran out and we were given two face cloths which were pointless in trying to dry yourself.

The bathroom itself was filthy- the bath and shower curtain were disgusting and I tried to clean it myself before washing.

Once of the spare pillows in the wardrobe had a stale piece of chewing gum stuck to it and when I mentioned this to reception, I was laughed at. Thankfully, other staff I spoke with thereafter were polite but when we went for breakfast, the member of staff at the entrance to the cafe/bar area was incredibly rude. If we weren’t in a hurry, we would’ve left the hotel for breakfast and I wish I did as the offerings were very simple but inedible for me. The scrambled eggs were cold and rubbery as were the herby sausages. I ended up settling for toast and jam with a cup of tea as even the coffee and orange juice had no flavour.

For the duration of my stay in London, I was seldom in the hotel so saw no point in complaining or ruining the few days of my holiday but I would not recommend this hotel as a place to stay.

The bathroom was dirty white water marks on back of door toothpaste on wall no hook to hang clothes in bathroom and went to get breakfast told the all inclusive breakfast is not available due to some kitchen issue and that if we want breakfast they are sending us to one of their other hotels. I don't want to travel to other hotels just to get breakfast im physically disabled it's ridiculous. Cup marks on menus in roomVery poor would not recommend it. Glad I wasn't paying or I'd be wanting a refund

Our recent stay at Travelodge King's Cross Scot left us with mixed feelings, as the experience was a blend of both positive and disappointing aspects. Let's start with the positives. The location of the hotel is convenient, situated near King's Cross, making it easily accessible for travelers exploring London. The exterior and lobby were well-maintained, creating a welcoming first impression.
However, our enthusiasm waned as we entered our room. The primary issue was the disparity between the room's description on the website and the reality we encountered. The advertised picture of the bathroom did not align with what we found in our accommodation. This discrepancy was a significant letdown, as we had specific expectations based on the online representation.
The room itself was clean and adequately furnished, but the unmet expectations regarding the bathroom left us feeling somewhat deceived. We believe that accurate representations on the website are crucial for managing guest expectations, and this area could use improvement.
On a positive note, the staff at Travelodge King's Cross Scot were polite and helpful.
Our experience with breakfast at Travelodge King's Cross Scot was marked by a series of unfortunate incidents, leaving us dissatisfied with the overall service.
Upon requesting breakfast at the reception and making the payment, we were surprised to receive no receipt or proof of payment. This lack of documentation raised concerns from the beginning, as we prefer having a record of our transactions for clarity.
The situation took a more unpleasant turn when we arrived at the restaurant. The hostess repeatedly questioned whether we had paid for breakfast, posing the same inquiry more than four times. This repeated interrogation created an uncomfortable atmosphere, making us feel as though our honesty was being doubted. It was a regrettable experience, especially considering we had already settled the payment at the reception.
To compound matters, there was a lack of communication regarding the breakfast timings. It became evident that the breakfast service was concluding shortly only when another employee intervened to inform us. Neither the receptionist nor the hostess had provided this crucial information, leaving us rushing to finish our meal within an unexpectedly limited timeframe. In the spirit of constructive feedback, we suggest that Travelodge King's Cross Scot improves its communication processes between the reception and restaurant staf

This hotel is in a desperate need of a upgrade.
The only positive thing about the hotel is the location (close to tube/train station) and that's about it.
I paid extra for early check in (from 12pm) I arrived at 12:45 and was told my room was not ready and that they get one of the cleaners to make up my room and that I will have to wait. I was shocked by this, when you paid extra you expect your room to be ready for you (not for your cleaners to wait for you to arrive before they start to clean your room). They were a number of other customers also waiting for rooms. Once I complained and that I wanted the extra £10 i paid for early check-in refunded as they didn't provide the service I paid for that they decided that there were rooms available however these were in the basement. As I was running low on time (as I had a afternoon show) i took the available room.
For some reason you had to go up 2 floors then go down a set of stairs to get to my room. The hallway carpet desperately needs replacing.
The room was very dated and looked nothing like the photos on the website.
However the room was clean and I was only going to spend the night so it will do.
The hotel is in a desperate need of a upgrade it would probably be cheaper to knock the building down and build a brand new hotel (there so much that needs doing).
Glad I was only spending a night here, would have been disappointed if I was staying any longer.
Wouldn't stay again and would suggest paying more to stay somewhere.

Although I never stayed in hotels in this chain, I didn’t have high expectations about this one, as I knew it was a budget and basic hotel. But even with low expectations, the Travelodge Kings Cross Royal Scot disappointed me widely.
The room, a double twin, did not match the description and images on the website. The comfortable armchair touted shone through its absence. The cheap wooden placard occupied the entrance hallway and, despite its size, had almost no storage space, except for hangers and a tiny shelf on each of its bodies. The center looked like a broom rather than a placard and was of no use. The large desk advertised was a poorly placed little table in which there was little room.
I understand that the frigobar may be unnecessary as there are several vending machines for drinks and snacks in the lobby. But at this point in the 21st century, it is unacceptable that rooms do not have a safe or free WiFi. This service was available free of charge for half an hour a day. To remain connected, three pounds had to be paid; although it is not much, the cost was not related to the low and intermittent signal quality. There was no air conditioning either. While the temperature was not high those days, the room was warm. To solve it the alternative was a small desktop fan available on the placard or open the window, with the consequent external noise. My room overlooked the hotel parking lot and the noise of the street, the suppliers, the staff who went out to talk or discuss there entered. Everything conspires against good rest.
But what is absolutely unacceptable is the lack of cleanliness of the room. When we checked in we found several signs of dirt: hair in the bathtub drain, whose yellowish and opaque walls showed lack of maintenance; stains on the bathroom door; fungus and/or dirt in the sink; huge amount of tartar in the electric stove (we asked for its replacement at the reception but received no response). To these initial failings must be added that they NEVER cleaned the room during the six days of our stay, even though we hung on the door the sign on which we requested cleaning. Staff simply entered the room to change towels and empty trash cans. It should be noted that neither on the website nor when registering we were told that there would be no cleaning of the rooms, something unprecedented in general and even more so for a supposedly three-star hotel. If we knew, we wouldn't have stayed there.
The only positive aspects of the hotel are its proximity to Kings Cross and St Pancras stations, and the varied breakfast at a modest price (which I paid separately for not being included in the Reservation).
The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the staff were very friendly.
Unfortunate experience.

Arrived 7 July for 5 night stay. The Hotel had sold out our room, despite having taken our payment in April. We were unceremoniously sent to another Travelodge in City Road where they found a spare room. We had booked Royal Scott for easy access to Kings Cross for ease of travel in and out of and around London during our stay. Not satisfactory at all. Extra cost and time to travel across London both for external travel arrangements and generally to access the sights within London.

Had booked a twin. Had to make do with a small double which was unsatisfactory.

No housekeeping during our stay at all and had to ask at reception for new towels. This may be a Travelodge speciality throughout all of their properties. I simply do not know not having stayed before in this hotel group. This is certainly something they should make clear on their site since it is generally a core value of hotels everywhere else.

Wasn't a cheapo option at the prices we had paid so we felt badly let down by both factors.

No air-conditioning and again this should be highlighted especially in the high temperatures experienced in July and an important factor for hotels.

Generally a most unsatisfactory experience and we will not be taking uncontrollable risks again with this brand.

I took my partner there for the last part of his birthday surprise break. We had stayed at another hotel previously (which was great!) and I thought it would be lovely to spend his last evening in Kings Cross as he had never visited the amaxing places around there and I wanted to take him to Dishoom. I have been to Travelodges in other places before so I thought this one would be fine. It was a bad decision.

The layout of the building was awful in that our room was right by the lift so we could hear everything. The sign asking people to be quiet outside the lift was a waste of time, even those who worked there ignored it and it was worse much later in the evening when guests had too many drinks from the bar.

The room itself had seen better days with very badly stained carpets (worse I've seen, thankfully I had brought slippers with me to walk on it) The furniture was very dated and a cupboard which looked like it once stored an iron board and iron that had bern removed. Used sugar sachets and teabags that looked an equal age to the room. There were no plugs by the bed just 4 USB plugs and only one port worked. The shower gel ran after just one of us took a shower so we had to use our own.

We were there for one night and it has to have been the worst night I've spent in a london hotel. I have been to Travelodges in the past and if this is Travelodge's acceptable standard nowadays I will not be visiting another one again.

When I went to reception to check out the next morning I wasn't even asked how our stay was like good hotels would, She just told me to put our cards in the box and went on to the next guest dismissively. With that I decided not to bother saying anything as it confirmed to me a lack of customer focus or care.

I wish I had checked reviews before booking.

This was not worth the price, a very disappointing experience.
