While I was not picking up the bill, I was quite impressed with the prices. They were reassuringly expensive, but a long way from eye-watering. The beef carpaccio was very good and the veal excellent. I thoroughly enjoyed the meal and the ambience. You will be amazed how many chips you get for £5! It was ideal for a business...

I liked this place: location is great, bar and restaurant on the ground floor are good, room was clean. And points also were already adapted, that's very important. Next time will be glad to stay there too.

Blakes was a very rare stay in London where the staff were always there, calm, welcoming and attentive, without being interruptive. The decor, as you would expect, was great and every area was as it should be. I had breakfast both days but the choice here was excellent, the restaurant at breakfast is really nice and coffee great. The bar,...

I chose to stay at Blakes Hotel because of its beautiful decoration and the fact that it belong to the Design Hotel company. The thing I loved the most was the fact that it is a luxury property but at the same time it has a young and laid back vibe. I loved its simplicity and the decoration. The breakfast and...

I wanted to love this hotel. Unfortunately that was not the case. On a Friday night we were told we weren't able to access the bar for an hour. We then ordered a bottle of wine which took one hour to arrive. The call from the bar never came. The house keeping service would barge in with no notice at...

My wife and I spent part of our honeymoon in London and stayed at the Blakes for 4 days. From a courteous staff perspective (bar, restaurant, concierge, front desk, doorman), it is one of the best! From the first day to the last, my wife and i were treated like friends of the family. It is a big scene on...

Tiny room. Despite request for early check in, not allowed in room on arrival although it was said to be ready. On return hours later, the bags were not in the room. After calling the desk, It took several calls for the bags to be located. Despite Starwood category and website pictures, the acccomodations and service are mediocre. Best to...

I am currently laid in bed about to check out after spending 3 days at the Blakes. It well proportioned considering and tastefully decorated. The bed is extremely comfortable,...

Nothing wrong with this hotel except facilities qualify for three and not five stars; minuscule reception painted mostly in dark colours, tiny, tiny room (it was even presented as an upgrade...!), no floor space to fold out a normally sized 75 cm suitcase, adequately sized bathroom with no heating source whatsoever, not even a heated towel rack, let alone a...

Staying in South Kensington

Neighbourhood Profile
South Kensington
With its ivied mews, row upon row of Poppins-esque white washed mansions, and placid garden squares, it's easy to see the charms of South Kensington. And with superb access to Hyde Park, Holland Park and Kensington Gardens, as well as the largely child-friendly and mostly free Museum Quarter (not to mention more major attractions like Royal Albert Hall) such charms are easy to make the most of. As welcoming and cosmopolitan as it is reserved and residential, South Kensington is always a hit with visitors.
