Booked two rooms for four nights whilst visiting London for my wife's birthday. Booked a suite for myself and my wife and also booked a double room with a view for my daughter and then was told two days before arriving that the suite had been double booked and was no longer available so was offered a small room with no view on the 4th floor which was unacceptable as the price I paid was for a suite with a view and was then told it would be upgraded to an executive room however on arrival it was a standard double room as it was exactly the same as my daughter's room. Booking in we were made to feel like an inconvenience and the smell of marijuana was very strong in the foyer/reception area. I had requested flowers, champagne or anything that would make the room feel special for my wife as it was a special birthday but was told that it was not hotel policy to put such things in guests’ rooms and I would have to order room service from the room instead. However, there was a small bar of chocolate and a card saying 'Happy Anniversary' so that was a huge disappointment and unbeknown at the time it was a good indication of what the rest of the stay was going to be like. The mini bar fridge was empty. The carpet was dirty and stained. The bathroom was in need of a good scrub down as it had a film of soap residue in the shower and sink. The view was the only redeeming feature of the room. After a long day travelling, we decided to order a room service meal which consisted of burger with fries and a pizza. This basic order took 2 hours to reach our room and the food was barely edible - cold soggy undercooked pizza and a rock hard burger with fries - the fries were the only thing that passed for edible. After the first evening's stay the room was tidied, but not cleaned (i.e. the bed was made) and new towels were put in the bathroom yet the toiletries and tea/coffee were not replenished though and that was the last time our room was cleaned during the entire stay so the second evening after a long day sightseeing we returned to room and rang down to reception and requested clean towels and asked why the room was not cleaned we were told housekeeping had finished for the day and a member of staff brought towels to the room. On the third night we returned to the room to get ready for a special family meal and the room again was not cleaned so we again rang reception and was told someone would be up to clean the room in about an hour, but we explained we just wanted to get showered and ready for our evening out and we were simply informing them that housekeeping had not been to our room again. Shortly after the phone call a very angry young lady came knocking on the door - I answered the door and was greeted by 'What do you want?' I stated ' Pardon?' To which she rudely said, ' You asked for housekeeping so what do you want?' I stated I did not request the room be cleaned at that very moment I had just informed reception that it had not been cleaned. She stormed off down the corridor muttering profanities. Two minutes later a different lady knocked and asked to clean the room and she had brought towels so I politely told her room cleaning was not required at that time as we were getting showered and changed etc but would be heading out shortly if she wished to return later to clean the room. Then you guessed it this happened a third and then a fourth time each time they brought more towels and were obviously not happy about being sent to our room - if it wasn't so offensive it would have been comical. When we vacated the room in the morning of the last day of our trip the receptionist barely glanced up from his phone and pointed at the key drop off box indicating for us to throw our key cards in the box and that was the extent of the checkout procedure - No communication to ask about our stay or if we required a taxi etc and no attempt to even be pleasant. The hotel staff were extremely unwelcoming to the point that they made you feel like you were imposing on them by expecting them to just do their job to a good standard and actually smile and exchange pleasantries like a simple 'Good Morning' etc . The atmosphere in this hotel was so inhospitable. What was supposed to be a lovely birthday treat in the city visiting family and having a relaxing break was ruined by this hotel experience. We visit London regularly to spend time with family and in all the years and all the hotels we have stayed in - this is by far the worst hotel stay ever.

Really easy we checked in online before we arrived so room key was waiting at reception for us. Really basic and clean but we didn’t spend much time in the hotel room. We didn’t get breakfast as we walked over to Canary Wharf as they have restaurants was about 10 min walk. Only let down was the parking as the hotel don’t offer this but they hotel next door offers parking but they didn’t have any spaces left so we hired out a parking space about 15 min walk away. At the moment they also seems to have a lot of building work going on around the hotel.

Stayed here before our honeymoon flight the next day. We noted it was out honeymoon on the booking, to one person acknowledged it. The internet was down during the evening of our stay, the TVs did not work and this was in a suite. The breakfast was inedible and other tables were being asked if they wanted champagne with their breakfast, we weren't even eating and no one came to ask us if were ok let alone ask us if we wanted champagne. I went to reception to complain, she said normally we would leave you a cake for your honeymoon but we missed that. She said we could have breakfast for free in the cafe, which took 45 minutes to make and meant we were rushing to make our flight. She gave use £40 back in compensation which is practically what we paid for breakfast so actually we just got a refund for the inedible breakfast. As a result, I will be contacting Novotel directly to inform them of this poor unacceptable service and ask for an actual refund now I'm back from honeymoon. Forgetting out honeymoon these are basic things. The hotel needs someone to do a spot check on rooms to check TVs are working, lamps are working, pens are with the notepad, phones work, there are enough cups for 2 people sharing a room. All of which were to applicable during our stay.
