Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stayed here in June 2011 - have already posted a review, which appears ... not to appear! So - here I go again. The hotel is very cheap for Chiswick/London. However, the bed in our room had filthy pillows. The floorboards are painfully noisy. The kitchen was greasy and unhygienic (breakfast would have been out of the question). The host was very welcoming and efficient in terms of briefing us on the house and providing us with our final payment details. However, I left with a feeling of being embarrassed to be British. So many foreign visitors must use this accommodation and assume it's the norm. My advice to the proprietor/s would be to give the whole place a massive makeover. There's shabby chic. And then there's this: shabby and shameful. Time to get a wiggle on and deliver something much healthier to be proud of. I wouldn't return if the hotel were free. Not that they'd want me to after this review. However, how are they to improve if they don't read this?

Reviews seem to take extreme views........my experience is very middle of the road.
The location was excellent, close to the Tube and to the Science Park where I had a meeting. There are numerous eating places close by. I arranged an arrival time with the owner via email and was made most welcome. Due to a cancellation my room was larger than the one booked. It was clean and very comfortable with a bookcase full of old books and walls covered in the owner's art. You know that there is only a shared bathroom so this shouldn't come as a surprise. The bathroom was quite clean.
You are able to use the kitchen to make tea/coffee and prepare your own breakfast. I'm afraid that the whole experience was spoiled by the rather grubby state of the kitchen. I'm not overly fussy but frankly, the plates and cutlery were dirty. The cupboard doors needed a good clean.
This colours your overall impression of the location.

I should have read reviews more carefully before booking. The lack of detail in the hotel description is also a clue.
A dirty shared bathroom.
Noisy. Room was dusty. Towels provided had seen better days. A "help yourself" kitchen was messy and ramshackle. Downstairs open plan area is the owner's living space with his bed in view.
I had no idea booking.com listed these kind of places. Just glad that my stay was brief and was in the property for the minimum time. This is a very poor Airbnb at best .

Stopped a while back and I wasn’t going to write a view but I’ve just seen the deluded chauvinistic pig who runs the place on tv giving it the big shot. Bob is a vile man who’s views belong back in the 60s. He gives no damn about his business and I think it’s just a way for him to pay bills without having to actually do any work. The bathroom was vile, the kitchen must never get cleaned, the bedding was filthy with hairs and dust everywhere. Stains on all the walls, damp patches I could go on, but I won’t.

I had the misfortune to book this vile property via a website that does not reveal the property name prior to payment. Had I the benefit of reviews I would have stayed well away. Located in a seedy row of tenement houses near Chiswick High Street ( the only positive being this proximity) this sorry property is actually a private home with several crummy rooms for rent upstairs accessed by a skinny narrow creaking stairway. The entire property is covered in sticky grime. The advertised "private bathroom" is shared by guests and is horribly misleading as it is public not private! There are 2 to choose from. Both are decrepit, dirty and lack amenities. Floors are filthy, doors are grimy and ill fitting. The noise throughout this house at night is shocking. I could hear someone snoring from below me. I awoke to loud voices, creaking floors and hammering. There is " grass roots" and there is a " con perpetrated on the public" At Home is the latter. How the " host" can look guests in the eye and take their hard- earned money for this totally inhospitable property beggars belief. Notwithstanding having paid for 2 nights in advance I quickly departed one day early and was so thrilled to be gone I happily forfeited the second nights fee. PLEASE do not stay here. Even if free. There is nothing charming or delightful about this experience. The host has a chip on his shoulder and is brusque, matter of fact and seems not to give a toss. The fault lies with sites that offer "At Home" to an unsuspecting public. Clearly this property is not fit for paid hospitality. All the negative reviews are valid. I have never been more eager to depart an establishment as I have "at home Chiswick". Were there an option to give ZERO stars - I would select it to best describe this property.

Very rude and little helpful owner. Tried to cancel a booking over the phone and he became irritated aggressive and refused to pay back the amount we were due. We had to write off our payment but thankfully we didn´t have to stay at his place and have to deal with him in person!

The actual bedrooms were clean but the rest of the house was very dirty. Every dish in the cupboard had food on it, there was thick dirty dust on everything.

Very shabby old and tired. The floors creaked, the louvre doors on the cupboard were broken, (and there was junk in the cupboards) There is NO en-suite bathroom, you have to share with other residents. Nothing was clean, 'breakfast ' was self service in the kitchen, which was dirty and cluttered. Would I go there again - "Not in this lifetime"

Don't believe the nonsense that you read below....what great value in a wonderful location in the best city in the world.....Bob is a wonderful host and has an amazing art collection and is so welcoming in his own house......breakfast is what it is...help yourself and all of it top notch quality...a good size bedroom and a decent bathroom, and all this for the price!!! Amazing.....we will definitely be back!!! Love the 1950's French table football in the middle of the living area......little terrace below and outside the bedroom, and best of all?? So peaceful and quiet...best night's sleep we have had in years....walking distance form wonderful shops, an amazing second hand bookshop and a top notch Indian restaurant.....we loved Bob's place!!

I wish I had read these reviews before booking. I was unable to have my booking fully confirmed as the credit card did not process correctly. But the greedy owner still wants to charge a cancellation fee even though the booking process is not complete. Not very friendly. And as he insists on taking my money for nothing i think it is only fair to write a negative review.
