Stayed one night (B&B only),booked two rooms. Bedrooms and bathrooms, clean and spacious. Our room had a very pleasant outlook over the river. Staff were very pleasant, helpful and efficient. The breakfast was served to the table (preferable to a buffet) by very friendly and efficient staff. We chose the 'Full English' option. Sufficient to keep you going until afternoon...

This is the third time myself & the missus have visited this hotel. Despite it being so close to Christmas, the hotel was by no means full and we had the Lodge room this time. Advantages; very quiet, feeling of seclusion, no stairs. Disadvantages; having to go outside to get to the main hotel, not so good if it's raining....

This family run hotel is a million miles away from the mega hotel chains of today. It is warm, friendly, value for money with the personal touch. Food is good without being exceptional, the bar is well stocked, but not with everybody's 'cup of tea'. Free parking outside the hotel. The Royal is far from luxurious, but ticks all the...

Room was fine. Food in restaurant was above expectation. You have to wait a bit for it to come. But this is good, it shows it is freshly cooked. Breakfast is excellent. Good real ale available for a fair price in the bar.

The Royal has a brilliant team from bar dispensers, reception, waiting on staff and Restaurant Manager Barry. Obviously we did not meet behind the scenes staff, but credit for a timely well presented meal, which. for the most part was enjoyable and good value for money. The roast beef was tough and steak knives were requested. Nothing was too much...

Stayed here in as an impromptu night away - but should have brought sandwiches. The room was well adorned, decorated and equipped. No complaints whatsoever. Staff very friendly. Evening in the restaurant was a disaster. Rubber chicken, leather beef and Aunt Bessie's roast potatoes perfectly created the feel of a restaurant on its last legs - actually back in the...

Really good hotel, large group of us had to book late on a Friday to visit grandmother in Aintree Hospital. Staff really friendly, sorted out different room bookings and meal in restaurant for us even though we arrived late. Super breakfast.

Accommodation on 2 upstairs floors...there is NO lift, so if you struggle with stairs, its no good for you....another problem is you cannot choose how you want a steak cooking if you are a party of 10 or more....even if only 3 want steak!!!!! Unfortunately, food is only average, shame really as its not a bad hotel and is in...

The staff and management were superb from start to finish. Nothing was too much trouble. The room was lovely and clean and the bed was really comfy. Bar process good and the food in bar was very nice. Breakfast was excellent too. Fantastic location for walks and local amenities. I would recommend to anyone looking for a quiet relaxing place.
