This was our first visit to the Holbeck Ghyll and in the main we were particularly satisfied with the caliber of the accommodation and the service received by the staff. We regularly travel to the area and generally stay in local hotels however; we decided to select Holbeck Ghyll, primarily due to the spa facilities on offer. We had planned...

Stayed here for one night in February to celebrate my wife's birthday. Let's start with the positives - this is a stunning location with fabulous views over Windermere. The staff are great and the main hotel is very good. We didn't eat dinner here so cannot comment on the restaurant. We came via a deal on Secret Escapes and have...

We'd come for the afternoon tea after reading reviews that said it was very good- we were so disappointed. The sandwiches were uninspiring and stale, the scones were tiny, crunchy and had a texture like day old bread and the patisserie was equally unimaginative and not great. To top it off we were pretty much left alone and had to...

Food Very overpriced !! --- £ 68 for 3 microscopic courses for Dinner; as a regular visitor there over the years, and experienced the warm, ambience and personal service of David & Patricia Nicholson, and the top notch meals via Head Chef David Mclaughlin -- our recent visit was disappointing --- only one small lounge now ( used to have...

We had a 2 night break here and we're very impressed by our room, which overlooked Windermere. The staff on our first night made us feel very welcome. But the hotel let themselves down on the second night. In particular dinner where the menu was exactly the same bar the fish dish. And we were forced to have dinner at...

This is the second time that we have stayed in this cottage that is in the grounds of the hotel. We thought that the food was excellent in the hotel but the bungalow was a disappointment . The scenery from the lounge window is stunning but the lounge is getting shabby with a dirty fabric sofa( if dogs are allowed...

We enjoyed a weekend away here and truly relaxed. Service is impeccable with staff always on hand to assist. Evening meal and breakfast were delicious! Spa treatment and hot tub with incredible views not to be missed!

We booked for a weekend treat as we often do, it was with great anticipation as if you read some recent reviews they are not great and we realised that Darren Cornish had left ( who in my opinion is the best chef I have ever met ) Plus add to this the Hotel is having some alterations. Well there...

Stayed for two nights and had high expectations for a luxury stay that came with a luxury price tag. Whilst the hotel itself was beautiful (room was lovely, staff excellent, views magnificent) we were disappointed that we did not receive prior notification (or discount) that the hotel was undergoing refurbishment which meant there was no bar area and the kitchen...

What a lovely hotel in an amazing setting, to wake in the morning with a glorious view of the lake , to be able to bring dogs and take them on the fabulous walks in the area. Such a treat. The hotel has great history having started as a hunting lodge, owned for a time by Lord Longsdale (of the...
