We stayed in a tipi for 3 days. My daughter loved it, it was great fun, BUT im glad we weren't there any longer. On arrival the tipi was clean, bedding was provided, but by day three in the rainy lakes it was not so clean with bits of grass and bugs finding there way in. There was only two...

Beautiful spot with views of the lake. Facilities very typical for YHA. Odd building which is clearly having some issues ,a leak in the staircase area left a very unpleasant smell . Could not work out why most of the wc on the first floor not available for use . Bunks not comfy but perfectly acceptable. Tired ,so early night...

Me and my brother (11 and 8),went to the YHA with our parents, we were astonished with the amazing views and scenery. When we went into the room, we saw how basic it was;however, the facilities were great. In the evening it was very relaxed and casual, we felt very comfortable and at home.In the morning we had breakfast, it was...

The 'campsite' is more of an unmaintained meadow. Hard to find flat land and the grass was up to my waist, when wet it completely filled my 5 year olds wellies with water and ruined them. So many midges we were eaten alive. The facilities were good but lots of spiders. The fact that you can't get the car near...

Stayed at YHA Windermere campsite and found that it was fairly overpriced for what it was. Is about a 20 minute walk from the nearest shop or pub and a 40 minute walk to Windermere. The views over the lake were incredible and the actual campsite was fine although the grass was very long. The camping facilities were fine when...

Travelled with friends and shared a four person private room, which was clean and pretty comfortably. Used their self catering facilities as well (the restaurant kitchen was kind enough to lend us some salt, pepper, and oil), which were pretty extensive. A tip if you stay here is to wake up early and enjoy the sunrise out in the garden...

Bike storage didnt appear to be safe - they provide a key for residents only, but the shed is located a way from the main building in the lower carpark and is decorated with 'lock it or lose it' posters and accessorised by a couple of locks that had been cut right through. Negatives: I don't think that YHA offers...

This visit was down to providing kayak safety cover for the great north swim at Windermere. I have stayed at the hostel many times before and have enjoyed it immensely. This time round the staff were accommodating and managed to get me checked in very quickly whilst dealing with lots of other people. Even given my late arrival (bang on...

As a whole the youth hostel is great, however we decided to have a evening meal and take advantage of the under 10's eat free offer that we saw by the entrance (image below.) Clearly states under 10's eat free The food was of a fair standard, however when came to paying we were told that the only free children's...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Lake District is a truly beautiful part of the world but like many amazing places, it can get busy. If you want to get the best of the area without jostling with the crowds, head to Broad Oaks Country House Hotel. However, if they are full, then may as well stay here at this YHA. Only 2 miles from Windermere town centre and offering panoramic views, this spectacularly situated hostel is a real gem. There's a lovely pace of life here - great if you want to unwind. We recommend you take a walk through the large wooded grounds and look out for the wonderful inhabitant wildlife. At the end of the day simply relax and enjoy gorgeous sunsets with a drink on the terrace. You may love the mix of old and older as this diminishing hostel offers some of modern facilities to possibly ensure a reasonably comfortable and 'okay' stay. ... more   less
