My friend and I met for lunch at the restaurant in the George. We took our time choosing our food from the set lunch time menu which had four choices for starters, mains and desserts. We both went for a main course and a dessert for £14.95. We had not met for a few months so we had a lot...

Right in the centre of Penrith this is a hotel of quality at a reasonable price and we couldn't fault it. Thank you to all of the very obliging staff for whom nothing was too much trouble. We were even allowed to take the dog!

I've stayed here on numerous occasions over the last 10 years. The rooms have all been refurbished within the last 5 yrs and a clean and very comfortable. The hotel itself has a wonderful traditional feel.. The relaxing and welcoming lobby area retains wonderful charm and warmth and staff are friendly and helpful.

Lived in and around penrith and passed this place most days but never eaten there before! Wish I'd tried it sooner as it was really good. We used a taste card so got two for one on the food but even so good value and exceptional quality! Staff were attentive without being pushy and will definitely be going again! Wouldn't...

The minute my wife and I walked into this hotel, we felt instantly at home, initially from the warm reception we received from all members of staff, to the oldie worldly atmosphere that was generated from the excellent décor. The service and friendliness of the staff remained throughout out stay, and the food served both at breakfast and evening was...

Very attractive hotel with excellent bars with top quality customer service. Good sized rooms were let down by a lumpy mattress and having to look out on the street when on the toilet. Good sized breakfast but dry bacon. Good hotel but small improvements would make it so much better.

A perfect taking off point for a visit to the fabulous Lake District of England, the charming town of Penrith puts its best historical context foot forward with a stay at the George Hotel. Old, spacious common areas, wonderfully located, and staffed with friendly people. Like most old hotels, the rooms are small and the luxury minimal, but the hotel...

Stayed based on recommendation of a friend. Staff great but stretched a little thin. High priced restaurant good (not great) and producing food of the level you would expect. Bar is OK - bit to stylized (none of the old world charm seen through out the rest of hotel) and the bar menu is they same one you might see...

Our latest trip to stay at The George must be our 34th night in this gorgeous place and its always good. We stayed in room 7 this time, and it was just beautiful, the suites are stunning and filled with character and so tasteful. I love the window seats looking out onto the cobbles. Since our last visit in January...

Love this hotel. Old fashioned charm and service. Lovely staff. Food quality and portion size excellent. Used the restaurant which is excellent for more formal dining and has different menu from the lounge. Also had one meal in the lounge which was equally as good. Breakfasts huge, but I dont like the do it yourself toast machines anywhere, especially here,...
