recently spent three nights at Portland house with our walking group. Arrived to warm welcome, tea and home made shortbread. The owners Rod and Denise gave wonderful service, lots of information and good natured banter. Our stay could not have been bettered. Their love and knowledge of the lakes were shared by all. In fact a superb place to stay....

A group of us from Stoke on Trent / Newcastle Ramblers stayed at Portland House for a long weekend. Everyone was very happy with their stay, Denise and Rod made us very welcome and looked after us. Mine and my partners trip wouldn't have been possible if it weren't for Denise and Rod altering rooms around so that we could...

We were pleased to be able to offer you our ground floor room so that your partner was able to stay over the weekend, it was such a shame that he couldn't get out to do the walks with the rest of your group - it was no trouble to keep him supplied with hot drinks - he was very...

Our walking group from Stoke on Trent were in Keswick for a long w/end. Some of us filled Portland House & all had a wonderful stay. Very comfortable B&B, delicious breakfasts and many lovely touches in the rooms. I've stayed before in May & would certainly stay again. A very warm welcome awaits. Thanks to Rod & Denise for their...

Visited the Lakes again with a friend for a spot of walking and some photography. We had an excellent room and the couple that run this make you really welcome. They are very attentive with little extras like shortbread in the rooms with tea making facilities. There is also a fridge downstairs for fresh milk for teas along with freshly...

A very good quality B&B. I judge my stay on hospitality (Rod & Denise are great friendly and considerate hosts), Breakfasts (10/10 Fresh fruit, yoghurts, cereals or traditional English is always just a as I like it) and rooms (beds very comfortable, spacious and the showers work very well.) All in all a great stay. p.s. could do with upgrading...

Had another fabulous break at Rod and Denise's place. Spent 4 night here and had a wonderful time. A very friendly place to stay with lots of nice extra touches. Pot of tea on arrival with homemade cakes and shortbread every day. Bottled water in the room each day and a small torch useful coming back at night due to low level street lighting in Keswick. Spacious and very clean rooms. Good choice for breakfast with homemade jams...

Rod and Denise were very welcoming hosts and had a cheery greeting for everybody at breakfast. Breakfast was excellent (spot on consistency of scrambled eggs that some B&Bs struggle with) and thoughtfully timed; toast when you want it, not as soon as you arrive so that it's cold when you eat it. The room was very clean, extremely comfortable, quiet...
