We chose to stay outside the main Lakes tourist area and Summerhow and Kendal proved a good choice. The owners were welcoming, very hospitable and informative. The breakfast choice and quality was excellent. Although the house is old, it and our room were warm, very comfortable and beautifully furnished. Everything that one might need seemed to be provided and with...

Very nice B&B, beautiful interior, convenient location just off Shap Road, perfectly peaceful, very friendly hosts; there is a parking space directly in front of the B&B. It's very quiet, no noise from the street

We had a fantastic time at Summerhow. John and Janey could not have been more hospitable. The rooms were lovely, comfortable beds, peaceful, with beautiful views. The breakfasts were delicious. Great location to explore this part of the Lake District and despite rainy weather, John and Janey provided us information for a suitable walk.

Our one night at Summerhow House was just not enough. From our entrance through the gates and the sweeping drive, we were transported into a wonderfully relaxing world where John and Janey couldn't have done enough to help us on a sad visit to a family funeral. From tea on arrival to personal use of their charming sitting room and...

We thoroughly enjoyed our nights there and were impressed with the quietude as well as the lovely accomodation and the first rate breakfasts. We were able to drive up to Ullswater and take the boat ride around the lake, and do a little shopping in Keswick. These sights are a bit far from Summerhow, but it was worth coming back...

Stayed 6 nights in September, giving us time to re-visit the Howgills and the Lakes. Perfect, delicious breakfasts, extremely comfortable beds and an excellent welcome from John & Janey. Kendal is a great little town with plenty going on - especially at the Brewery Arts Centre, with its theatre, cinema and restaurant.

John and Janey were really welcoming and couldn't do enough for us from tea and scones on arrival to very tasty 'look forward to' breakfasts we felt thoroughly spoiled from the moment we arrived. The house is very comfortable and...

Decided to stay over in Kendal following a concert at the Brewery. Having had some bad experiences with noise in some hotels we decided to check out our favourite Alistair Sawday site and found Summerhow ! What a gem. We had a very warm welcome from John and Janey who recommended a great restaurant for the evening. The room was delightful...

I didn't fancy going to a B&B as I prefer hotels (I thought I did before this experience!). Saw Summerhow House on Alistair Sawday's website on a Wednesday, was totally charmed by it, booked it, went on Saturday. The house is in beautiful grounds and is breathtaking inside. The house is elegantly furnished to a high standard and you can...
