Just spent 2 nights in the Outgate Inn, excellent food, comfy room and a great welcome with a special homely atmosphere. Dog friendly, WiFi and real fire makes this an ideal bolt hole for a winter weekend away. We will return.

After a lovely day in The Lakes today we decided to go to The Outgate pub for dinner with our Westie. It's a very dog friendly pub, as lotty was the 6th pooch to have a night at the local! We both had Fish & chips that came with mushy peas & a side salad. It was delicious, well worth... More

Nice little pub near Hawkshead. Food was fabulous. We had the Steak and Ale Pie which was delicious. Veg cooked perfectly. Summer Berry Pudding was also nicely presented and yummy. The lighting was a bit harsh but the homely fire made up for that. You won't want to linger in the loo too long as it's not heated and on... More

Came with the family on a damp lunchtime. Not busy and got our food pretty quickly. VERY nice food too (i had the trio of local sausages). Kids bith had the children's fish and chips and both seemed tonlike it - despite being wuute fussy eaters. Will definitely be back.

Hawkeshead was full so we ended up here for our evening meal. Very friendly atmosphere. Good food. Well worth travelling a little way from Hawkeshead. Some lighting on car park would have been welcome, but we would definitely visit again.

I have been going up to Outgate with my Family for over 40 years and have seen the Landlords change over the years. My best memories were Chicken in a Basket years ago and a really hearty menu choice. I still adore the place but being a veggie now I find the options extremely limited - my husband only eats... A pleasant family dinner in comfortable surroundings. I had the slow cooked lamb shoulder which just melted in my mouth. As a family we found the portions more than a adequate, so much so we couldn't manage a dessert. Well done Outgate, we will return on our next visit to Ambleside.

We were given a warm welcome by Kat and Craig. The support staff (Jo and Jonni) were superb. Very good choice of pub food. Fish pie a very welcome addition to Menu. Rooms basic but clean and comfortable. Dog friendly.

Stayed for a weekend b&b. One of the nicest pubs we have stayed in. Brilliant breakfasts and very big. Lovely hosts. Very friendly atmosphere. Dog friendly. Stayed in room 5, nice warm room with large bathroom. Very quiet at night. Has its own car park which is a bonus as any regular visitor to this area will know. All these... More
