clean and comfortable common rooms with generous breakfast .The staff warm and friendly Our room was in the new wing at the back of the main building . Unfortunately for us there were a group of cyclists taking part in a race who had an early start and made a lot of noise at 0530 getting ready to go out...

Bright clean and airy double en-suit room great retreat to restore tired limbs. Ideal place to discover a variety of family excursions on foot. "At happy distance from earth's groaning field," William Wordsworth Allan Bank which was once his home is in easy reach as are the woodlands & Gardens of Lancrigg

For people on the Coast to Coast this is very adequate but a quite a bit of privacy is sacrificed with shared bedrooms and facilities. Also the proprietors clearly don't appreciate that some customers do NOT want to sleep/eat/try to relax with the constant presence of a few cats...the only good cat is a dead cat. However the Pizza Night...

A reassuring note for our future guests. We take all our reviews very seriously and always heed our guests comments in order to continuously improve the offer here at Thorney How. However, on this occasion we feel that the well-being of the two cats that can often be found in our reception area is more important in order that they...

We stayed here while doing the Cumbrian Challenge. Brilliant location as only a few minutes drive to the event. The hostel was lovely and in a quaint peaceful location. Room and shower rooms very clean. Great for what we required. Would recommend.

Stayed here the night before we did Scafell pike and what a lovely place it was. The location is wonderful surrounded by hills and fields and the whole place feels peaceful, we had a fantastic nights sleep. The food was excellent, we had chicken pie and it was one of the best I have had, lovely comfort food served in...

Thank you for this great review. For those considering undertaking Scafell we recommend that you check your routes in advance with a good map and also the journey time required to travel there and back by car. There are lots of great resources for this on the internet - try this one produced by Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team http://www.wmrt.org.uk/the-easiest-way-up/the-easiest-way-up-scafell-pike/ Kind...

We didn't quite know what to expect when we stayed here as the word 'hostel' conjures up a certain type of accommodation. However, it totally surpassed any expectations we had. Being on the C2C it was ideally situated and the location was stunning. Being away from the busy centre of Grasmere was a real plus for us as we enjoy...

Lovely hostel, clean and very well organised and run. Welcoming staff. Beautiful location. Great selection of beer, and food (the Tuscan bean casserole was amazing). Top notch, pity we only had one night there before the next leg of the walk!

We were welcomed by all staff and some of our extra requirements were attended to though they were outside the normal offer. Location is beautiful- facilities extremely clean - breakfast freshly cooked. We couldn't fault anything.
