We had a wonderful four day break at Monk Coniston with HF holidays! The hotel was a national trust hotel ! The food was first class and all the staff were brilliant! Thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. The hotel was very clean and could do with upgrading a bit but it was nice and warm in the terrible weather we...

Stayed 7 nights on an HF guided walking holiday. Absolutely loved the house (owned by the National Trust) - grand public rooms, yet cosy, & lovely views down to Conistonwater. Superbly placed for walking straight from the door (Old Man of Coniston, Wetherlam, Tarn Hows etc) & on bus route from Windermere/Ambleside. Our room was in the old Counting House...

Stayed here as part of a walking holiday with inclusive meals/packed lunch. Was told my room, on the ground floor of the main building, was smaller than average but was just right for me with comfortable bed, TV (which I never used), bathroom with shower, and kettle. Wide selection of cereals, fruits and 'to-order' hot breakfast items as well as...

I stayed at Monk Coniston in early June for a weeks walking holiday. It is set in a wonderful location with amazing views of the surrounding area. The hotel is very well run with excellent staff. Their was a varied menu and the food was always well cooked and presented. The walks were fabulous and well led and benefitted from...

We stayed at Monk Coniston for 7 nights in June 2015 as part of a HF Holidays package. It was excellent! We hiked approximately 15 km / day with a typical elevation gain of 2000 feet and yet I managed to put on 2 kg weight. Just an illustration of the fantastic meals that came with the accommodation.

Stayed here on may bank holiday weekend for just 1 night. Room was large, clean and comfortable. Floor boards squeaked with every step, which was typical of the hotel and it's characteristics. On the whole we loved the place, as people have mentioned John was very accommodating and helpful. Breakfast was of a good standard, cooked to order, served hot...

The breakfast was very nice and they had a wide chose of things to eat for everyone's dietary needs. The hotel was clean and tidy, it was very...

We stayed here for one week during an HF holidays family walking trip. The food was good and they try to purchase local products when possible. Several items we ate were grown in their own garden. The service was good and they were very accommodating to us with small children. The house manager John was incredibly helpful. It is an...

It's hard to class this as a proper hotel as it appears to be more of a centre for a walking holiday company. The main house has a sense of faded grandeur, which I always find appealing. Our room was fine and the breakfast generous and service prompt. For breakfast you join a large circular table which is served when...

Stayed here for 3 nights in April with our walking group. Its a beautiful house in a superb location with good walks from the door. The food was very good and we particularly liked the smoked salmon at breakfast. The packed lunches were up to the usual HF excellent standard. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. My single room...
