Nice enough pub grub, with good quality food and decent portion sizes overall, however the speed of service was slow, the starters were very hit and miss (one fried Brie parcel was missing the actual Brie!) and a draught from the windows behind us kept us feeling chilly. Friendly staff though and our complaint about the aforementioned Brie was quickly... More

Sadly this restaurant is now in a death spiral. There's hardly any customers so the kitchen staff churn out quick dishes that are utterly disappointing. Pre cooked / frozen meals in a lacklustre dining room that probably results in zero return visits. The only positive is the (British) guys behind the bar who are friendly & efficient. The real ale... Can not really find any fault with this hotel, perfectly situated in the town for all the shops and restaurants, staff are really friendly and helpful. Breakfast covered all tastes and the bar had a good selection of local beers.

Stayed here with two friends to walk locally. Arriving early, 9.30ish, we were met with indifference when asking about a car parking space. We were told the hotel had limited parking. There was no offer to reserve one and told there's plenty of parking around. We thought that the hotel could offer parking permits (like some others in the area)... More

The hotel has a fantastic location - shops, restaurants, pubs are all within easy walking distance. Car parking is extremely limited - we were lucky enough to secure one of the car parking spaces, however we were blocked in by another car - when we went back to reception to ask if they knew who's car is was/could they contact... This hotel is in a great location in Ambleside (near shops and a number of restaurants), and the staff serving on the bar and on reception upon arrival were friendly and competent. We had a double 'plus' room. I'm not sure what the 'plus' meant. It was basic which we expected but we didn't expect taps that fell apart, no... More
