My friend hired the entire backpackers for a birthday party with sleepover. The owner, Cherry, is lovely. The backpackers itself is lovely with a well equipped kitchen, lovely sitting room and good rooms. The backpackers is also in a great location. A truly enjoyable stay.

The 8 bed dorm was v spacious, v clean and so comfortable. Complementary breakfast was a welcome and healthy surprise, cereals coffee tea and toast. The showers were roasting hot and just what is needed after a days hiking. Super kitchen facilities, again very clean and organised. David and Cherry are friendly and extremely helpful hosts. It really is hard...

Friendly owners, perfect location in Ambleside meant all walking could be done straight from the hostel and not far from the pubs either! It was a great idea to have a help yourself on tea, coffee, bread etc. gives the hostel a much more homely feeling. The accommodation was to a high standard as were the facilities and kitchen. On...

Great rooms perfect location, 5 mins from centre of Ambleside. Excellent for walkers as has all the facilities of a hostel but no time restrictions. Although no parking, free street parking available near by.

Thanks for a great review, sorry the drying room couldn't cope, must have been really stuffed with very wet stuff. It usually dries all that's put in it, however soaked boots can be a pain to dry overnight

A group of us stayed at this hostel over the weekend and would really recommend it. The manager Chris could not have been more friendly and helpful (even when we were all a bit late leaving the kitchen/dining room in the morning!) and the cooking facilities are excellent: plenty of space and equipment for everybody. The sleeping accommodation is standard...

Just spent a long weekend at amblesidehostel.co.uk with some friends. The atmosphere is very welcoming and friendly. The whole place was very clean (unlike some other hostels!). The separate common room, massive kitchen and dining room are very spacious. There is very easy access to Ambleside with lots of dining & drinking options and unbelievable top quality outdoor gear options!...

We have stayed in the Backpackers on many occasions and it is still always our first choice when visiting the Lakes. It is very well located and only a short walk into Ambleside centre. You get unlimited tea and coffee and toast and cereal for breakfast included which makes it a great budget option. You also get free WiFi and...

We had great time, breakfast basic but adequate. Rooms clean, and bedding clean. Only gripe is that the bunks squeaked every time you turned over or moved in the night, but with all the hiking in the day I was too tired to notice too much. Great for a couple or three nights but not much longer.

“As the hostel runs a dormitory system, the smaller the room size, the less chance of sharing with a snorer.”

“We had the private 2 bed room it was a great option. You could lock the room and make sure you possessions were safe. You didn't have to stay with people you dont know and the sink in the room meant you could stay in the room to clean your teeth. However the shower and toilets are shared but these are clean and functional so this was not a problem. The room has great views and is the same price per person as a dorm bed.”
