I really enjoyed my stay at Ambleside Backpackers. The owners were very helpful from our late Friday arrival and throughout the weekend. The rooms were very clean, newly carpeted and nicely laid out. The self-service breakfast facilities were fantastic and it was spacious enough to fit a large group and other guests comfortably. The storage for bags/cases after checking out...

Great review, thanks. Makes you wonder what upset the previous reviewer.

Among other elements of low-quality service, we were not allowed to use the toilets inside the hostel after the checking out. I don't think that any decent accommodation business would do that.Bad reputation.

This is a typical 'Hostel' style B&B. It is a perfect base for trips out of Ambleside, although it has limited carparking on site. There is on-street parking nearby, but you have to be lucky to get a space. The owners/managers are incredibly friendly and helpful, with lots of advise and local information. Our group had a 10-bed room, so...

Thanks for the good review, small correction -breakfast is toast and cereals (not or) and of course there is tea, coffee, preserves as well - even Marmite some days. Parking is as you say interesting in Ambleside, however I have never paid to park yet even when not parking at the hostel. But the I would rather walk 300 m...

I loved my stay a Ambleside backpackers. It takes you back to the real hostel experience as opposed to so many hostels that try and be trendy hotels. The price was very reasonable and included breakfast as well. The couple that run the place are lovely folk and very welcoming. The whole place is clean and full of character located...

We had a one night stay here and the location is very good just off the main road in the town. Parking is limited but there is a pay and display approximately 150 yards away but with this being the lakes of course it isn't cheap. If you are lucky there are one or two spots where you can park...

All you say is pretty much as it says on our web site. The parking is limited but there is a map in the porch showing all on street free and time limited parking near the hostel and you should never have to feed Cumbria or Lakes council pockets to park when you stay here. I feel its not a...

This was a last minute booking although we are used to staying in hostels in Scotland so nothing came as a surprise. Great location and very friendly/helpful owners. You may have to hunt for some parking unless you get there very early but thats the lakes for you and to be expected really. Comfy dorms, slept well. Plenty of hot...

This hostel is in a great location, less than 5 minutes walk from the town centre. The accommodation is basic, but great value. The owners went out of their way to help me when I stayed, I can thoroughly recommend it and will be visiting again.

Pros Great location close to town centre., free breakfast with plenty of choice of cereals and spreads, well equipped kitchen, spacious public rooms and very clean. Cons: Shower facilities resticted and no privicy, no recycling facilities in the kitchen (very odd in this day and age!), late check in time and New Testaments in the dorms. Other things that might...

Hi Sorry you do not like the communal showers, but they do usually work pretty well. The New testaments are in the dorms because we are Christians and believe Gods word is important - you do not have to read them and if you do not believe in God what difference does it make anyway? The curfew is explained on...

We couldn't fault this place during our stay. Having travelled quite a bit lately we've become quite picky with our choice of hostels. This one is right up there with the best we've seen. The staff are wonderfully friendly and informative. The beds are very comfortable. It's in an excellent position with lovely views. The common areas are large and...

We were lucky in getting a room here as it was still closed for the season, with the exception of one Friday for Coniston Run regulars. David kindly booked us in a room for ourselves (with a view of the mountains we had just climbed no less). The beds were superbly cosy and comfy, the rooms warm and very very...

“As the hostel runs a dormitory system, the smaller the room size, the less chance of sharing with a snorer.”

“We had the private 2 bed room it was a great option. You could lock the room and make sure you possessions were safe. You didn't have to stay with people you dont know and the sink in the room meant you could stay in the room to clean your teeth. However the shower and toilets are shared but these are clean and functional so this was not a problem. The room has great views and is the same price per person as a dorm bed.”
