Excellent afternoon tea. Very welcome after today's Langdale exertions! Wide and interesting selection of cakes, pastries and filled croissants served with lots of hot tea from a good selection of leaf teas. All served in front of a blazing fire by attentive staff in pleasant surroundings.

My husband treated me to an overnight stay for my birthday and it was perfect. The staff are wonderful; the service efficient and friendly; the dinner excellent. For me, the biggest surprise was the generous and delicious breakfast spread, including the most tempting and imaginative menu of hot dishes I have seen anywhere. The only negative point for us was... More

As the proud owners of a largish St Bernard a short stay in the lakes with the dog can be problematical especially with a hound of this size unless we book a cottage for the week. RM offers 4 dog friendly rooms with a fenced off area outside, separate access from outside so you don't need to troop through reception... More

Just returned from a wonderful family birthday weekend at Rothay Manor. 10 adults, 2 children (5 & 8) and baby 7 weeks. The staff made us all feel so welcome from the moment we arrived. A special mention must go to Elaine who had been so kind and helpful with all our arrangements. All the rooms are individually designed and... More

The food is to die for and the staff is lovely. I cannot commend the chef enough, his food and presentation is just perfect. I'd visit again just for the food itself. Also the area is so calming, perfect for walk and strolls. The lake is massive and every small town around has it own quirkiness. Loved Ambleside the most,... More

Afternoon tea, a Christmas present from family. Nice location, friendly staff, but the afternoon tea itself, just lacked something, just a good old sandwich would have made all the difference! Still very nice though.

We had booked a one night stay, champagne afternoon tea and tasting menu here for a special occasion, (see separate restaurant review). We arrived about 12pm (check in is 2pm) and there was a lady behind reception that didn't rush to come and help us, when she did arrive I said I know we are to early to check in... More

We were very happy with our afternoon tea in this lovely setting. The chef prepared vegan options for me at quite short notice- we booked about an hour in advance, so as well as a good selection of goodies for my husband, including savouries, scones with jam and cream, sweet pastries and crème brûlée, there was stuffed potato skins, pumpkin... Just back from a two night stay at Rothay Manor with my friend. We went to celebrate his birthday. We were warmly welcomed by a lovely lady on reception. She continued to go above and beyond her role throughout our visit. We had a lovely room, well furnished and clean (although the carpet was marked in places near the door,... More
