The overnight big cat safari experience - a hidden gem in the village of Smarden in Kent, UK. The Big Cat Sanctuary is a 34 acre peaceful conservation site whose primary objective is conservation and offering sanctuary to homeless or rescued cats. On our big cat safari experience you will get up close and personal seeing our amazing and diverse collection of cats from the world's smallest Rusty Spotted cat to the world's most endangered Amur leopard and also learn about the conservation work we do both at the centre and overseas. We operate by way of personal experiences only, this is an incredible experience in which you will encounter all we have to offer at our at the sanctuary with an overnight stay. The agenda for guests to the overnight big cat safari experience is below: You will arrive early afternoon for afternoon tea with a glass of bubbly on our terrace over-looking one of our lion enclosures, after this you will enjoy a 2 hour VIP tour in which you will learn about the various species of Big Cats at the sanctuary. During the tour you will get the opportunity to get up close and personal with the cats, you may go in with our African Servals, these activities vary depending on what is happening with our cats at the time of your visit. In the evening, you will firstly be greeted with pre-dinner drinks and enjoy a sumptuous 3 course meal cooked by our resident chef which you will enjoy in our conservatory which adjoins our African lion enclosure, they are curious and regularly check out what you are eating for dinner! Once the evening meal is over you will retire to the comfort of your luxury lodge accommodation, most likely to the roar of our lions! The next morning you will have a choice of full english breakfast or continental style. Your morning will continue with the target training of one of our cheetahs and also an opportunity to hand feed one of the Big Cats which for most people is most memorable.

What a wonderful experience from start to finish. The lodge (tiger) was comfortable and well equipped, not that we were in it for very long. This is a relaxed, but packed time. Everyone was very helpful and friendly. The two tours of the sanctuary with a hand feed each time were brilliant, with knowledgeable keepers. The weather was cool, so all the cats appeared for us. Eating with a lion looking in at you, at your level, with only glass between you is something else. The lodge where one eats has been cleverly designed so that all the tables are at the long glass window that separates you from Kasanga, the lion in residence in that enclosure. Afternoon tea was lovely, the evening meal was good rather than great, and breakfast was good too. But I won’t even think of deducting a star because overall this was a fantastic, never to be forgotten, experience.

We have just returned from an overnight lodge stay. Everything was just amazing…. The two bed lodge, facilities, staff, food and especially the beautiful cats. Such an up close and personal experience with so many special touches that make it an experience to remember. Hand feeding the big cats was something else and something we will never forget. Thank you to all the staff there that made it so special.

Stayed in one of the spacious lodges to enjoy the overnight experience. Food was very good eating outside under small heaters socially distanced from other guests. Guides were extremely knowledgeable but gave us plenty of chance to ask questions rather than tell it all without interaction, which we appreciated. COVID precautions dealt with well. An amazing collection of large and small cats looked after caringly and in large enclosures than in many other places. Hand feeding a large cat on its hind legs makes one fully appreciate the size of the animals. Would return.

Had a fabulous stay at the Big Cat Sanctuary. Was great to hear how they are doing their best for conservation of big and small cats. Keepers were polite and happy to answer any questions we had, full of information of all the cats there. Such a pleasure to feed two beautiful leopards and see the famous Maya in the flesh. Thank you to all at the sanctuary and I hope to visit again in the future.
