The hotel is clean, is in an excellent location and the staff are exceptionally friendly. Breakfast was nice, well cooked (small errors on the order, but nothing dramatic), and we felt important to the staff. W would recommend this hotel as a very good value, well positioned clean place to stay.

Recently hired a car for a week and drove to Kent to visit Sissington Gardens. Stayed 2 nights at the Russell Hotel. We had a lovely room, car parking on site, delicious breakfast and hotel is 2 minutes on foot from main shopping strip. Reception is staffed 24 hours and staff were so helpful. Thoroughly recommend this hotel.

A little tired but a good hotel in a great location. The room was clean and tidy, had everything I needed including wi-fi in the room. TV and coffee making equipment etc. The bathroom was a little dated but everything worked. It really could do with taking out the bath and installing modern showers. Staff very friendly and accommodating. I...

Location is fab, start with the positives. Staff fine, but the interior is so outdated and the beds are so old, my Mum kept slipping off the bed because the matress seemed to be bigger than the bed, all very bizarre. Our room had dead ladybirds all across the windowsill, the bathroom was perhaps last updated in the 1960s with...

Attended a wedding and stayed at the Russell for one night. The hotel was very tired looking inside and really could do with a good coat of paint and bringing up to scratch for the charge of 105 per night. I was quite disappointed in how it looked inside as its a fabulous old building and could look really lovely....

I returned to the Russell on Christmas Eve 2016 and again just over a week ago.. That makes four overnight stays in three years. Perhaps that says it all, but I’ll add just a few comments. My rooms were again on the first floor, clean and comfortable. Staff were again welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was again very good, the coffee...

Some areas of this old hotel could do with redecoration, but my room had been recently painted in attractive warm colours. It was generous in size, including the en-suite which had space for a bath. The bed was comfortable, the lighting excellent, and the sharp television was nicely recessed to avoid reflections. Bonus points for including decaffeinated coffee in the...

We stayed at this hotel already aware of some negative reviews. The location is unbeatable near the town centre but not noisy. We booked at short notice by phone and this went without hitch. The welcome from the woman on reception was a little luke-warm but the man at breakfast (who was also the cleaner) was pleasant and enthusiastic. The...

As you'd expect with hotels like this, the interior isn't the most modern. That said, our room (51) seemed to have been recently refurbished. The bed sheets were clean, as was the bathroom which is all that really mattered to us. The biggest plus point was the hotel's location; it's a 5 minute (if that) walk into the centre of...

We stayed here for one night after we had been in the Tunbridge Wells Travelodge for 2 nights and were unable to get a 3rd night there. The Russell is a lovely old building in the style of Tunbridge Wells, very quaint and beautiful. However once you get past the check in desk the interior looks like it hasn't been...
