Just metres from Canterbury's medieval West Gate, this charming building dates back to 1403. A former coaching inn, it offers free WiFi and free parking, 2 minutes' walk from the city centre. The Falstaff still retains many original features, including oak beams and an open log fire. Each room has a TV for guests to use, and facilities for making tea and coffee. The hotel offers a cooked to order full English breakfast as well as self service buffet option. The bar offers a range of wines and variety of exclusive cocktails. Canterbury West Rail Station is a 3-minute walk from the building. The city's spectacular Norman cathedral can be reached in less than 10 minutes on foot.

The building may be several hundred years old but the modernisation job done on the ground floor is most impressive. Plenty of bold statements such as the propellers mounted on the reception wall, all done without compromising on comfort. The bar looks to be very well stocked

The staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was clean, it had everything we needed. But it was tatty. Needed a plaster, lick of paint, fresh carpet and new tv. Beds were very comfortable with lovely new bedding. Bathroom had been redone and was really lovely. Best self serve

is the car park sign posted? if not what road do we go down to access it?
Not posted. As you drive to the Canterbury old gate, facing it turn left. It’s just around the corner to the end of the building. Left into the lot.

Dear bikarman Thank you for your comments. We are one of the few city centre hotels in Canterbury to have its own car park and this is free to our residents. We do not reserve spaces for guests. There is also a public car park in North Lane, a few metres away from the hotel. With kind regards The Falstaff in Canterbury

There was a locked room where the hotel stored our luggage as we had arrived too early to check in.
