Really old pub full of knick knacks. Food top notch, we both had fish and chips- super! Start with crab on water melon or scallop. Finished with grilled pineapple with fantastic coconut creamy sorbet or rhubarb sorbet. Lovely beers, good wine selection by the glass. Central location, behind the cathedral. Excellent fast service (Sharon). Highly recommended!

One night stop over to take a look around this Catherdral City. Tasty cooked breakfast was perfect to set us up for the day. Room and its bathroom were very nice indeed. This short stay was made memorable by the extremely friendly and helpful staff in restaraunt, pub and hotel.

Came across this pub by chance. Oozes character, tradition and classic pub atmosphere. Good range of beers and ales. Easy to converse. Busy but still felt airey and subdued. Well worth a visit. Only had a drink so cannot comment on the food but people seemed to be enjoying that too.

Stayed here for two nights with my partner. Room was great, very clean and comfortable. Nice and warm with a radiator that guests can control. Bathroom had a bath in it as well as a shower and again was very clean. Great location, walking distance to the cathedral and to the city centre. Obviously has the advantage of being over a pub but also within walking distance to multiple other places to eat. We did eat in the pub one night and the meal was good. Also had a drink both nights before going up to bed. Car parking provided at the back of the pub for hotel guests only. This was very helpful as meant we didn't have to drag our luggage around. Overall a great stay, would 100% stay here again and have recommended to our family and friends for if they every visit Winchester.

We had dinner on a Saturday night, it was busy in a good way with plenty of atmosphere. The pub has a genuine authentic feel despite being part of a chain. The food was excellent, a cut above normal pub food. The braised beef and salmon are recommended. The chocolate dessert was exceptional.

We were excited to return to the Wykeham to celebrate our 13th wedding anniversary as this was where we had our first date back in 2006. I would describe the service as apathetic at best (they were totally disinterested in why we were there ) and, in essence, pretty shoddy. The wine we ordered to come with our meal finally arrived once we'd almost finished and was served to us in beer glasses as "they'd run out of wine glasses". The food was average, nothing special at all, and nothing like it used to be. This beautiful pub is actually an Aberdeen Angus Steak House in disguise. Typical homogenised pub chain. So sad, Fullers.

Dear Georgie, I am so sorry to hear that your experience at the Wykeham has not met your expectations, particularly given your past good experience. Customer satisfaction is our top priority, and I do have to say, without coming across dis-respectful I am a little confused with this review as I know that your waitress had been very attentive with you on the night despite the venue being extremely busy and when explaining the situation with the unforeseen circumstances with the wine glasses, I believe you found it entertaining. Had our team been made aware of any concerns regarding your overall experience, then I feel sure they would have taken appropriate action. my deepest apologies for the disappointment and inconvenience caused but should you wish to visit us again, I am sure you will receive a warm welcome kind regards Natalie Burgess, AM

Great atmosphere as always and attentive staff. Disappointed this time that the burger was served with cheese slices (?) instead of grated cheese and slightly less salad ... expected more from the Wykeham Arms. Happy to remain loyal customers as long as the food and service is consistently good. We're locals so will come back but it has taken us a long time to do so. Keep on improving your menu Wykeham Arms! We've been coming here since days of old.

Popped in to but a couple of drinks whilst finishing off a dog walk and was told I couldn’t order any drinks because I hadn’t booked a table. I looked around at the 10 or so empty tables, and asked if I could book a table for now and was told I couldn’t. There appeared to be several bar staff working, none of them doing anything, lots of empty tables and they still turned us away. I thought this industry was struggling to survive and with more lockdowns looming, this seems like a mad decision. On a packed Friday or Saturday night, with a pub full of Christmas parties, I get it. But on a quiet Monday evening, not the best commercial decision.

Dear Alex My deepest apologies for the disappointment and inconvenience caused on your recent visit. Hospitality can be extremely busy during the Christmas period, and the management team continued to support their staff and hotel guests, during this time. Which meant we decided to adhere to the government guidance to keep the workplace and Hotel safe. To maintain this high level of protection through the coming winter we controlled the amount of customers entering our premises, which meant we only accepted pre bookings. I can understand your frustration on seeing empty table but I can assure they were booked. Kind regards Natalie Burgess, AM

Get there early if you want to park easily! In the centre of the city so within easy walking distance of main sites. Nicely appointed room with fantastic shower and plenty of hot water. The restaurant menu is small but good variety, not fantastic standard but acceptable, city prices. Good breakfast .
