Had a lovely weekend at Marley wood, nice pleasant environment apart the moronic family at the end of the site who had no social skills or special awareness, so loud, kids and adults. Would have been nice to see a warden around 10.30 to check on noise. Apart from that lovely.

Gorgeous secluded woodland campsite. We spent a whole weekend here and thoroughly enjoyed being at one with nature Lots of woodland walks nearby Horses wandering freely through the campsite, brilliant! Very reasonably priced. You do need to bring your own chemical loo and washing facilities as none are available on site - only a fresh water tap waste disposal We... More

We have just returned from a lovely stay at Matley wood campsite. A very natural and tranquil site, in the forest, full of wildlife and wild ponies, we couldn't have asked for anymore! Facilities as described and well maintained. Friendly site staff who provided good local information. Idyllic!

I needed an unscheduled late stop and found Matley Wood. Very pretty and well placed but not cheap and with a sneaky unannounced fee if your not a member of the Caravan Club. Only facilities are water and chemical loo disposal. Oh, the access road is locked after 10.30pm which seems extraordinarily odd, trapping your vehicle inside until the morning!

We decided to stay here to break up a long journey for one night. We were initially pleased with the site, a really lovely back to basics setting. There is no hook up, showers or toilets, which was not a problem. We arrived at 1.30 and were informed by the site warden that they did not take the payment at... More

this is a natural campsite not a hotel, you have to bring your own toilet as theres no toilet or showers herebut its worth bringing a portaloo and tent,as you have horses and other animals walking through, and keep your eyes open and can even see deer on local walks around,a lovely site if you like back to nature camping.dave.

Amenities

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Matley Wood is a small and secluded campsite in a beautiful woodland setting, providing the ultimate in tranquillity. Side-by-side with nature and surrounded by oak trees, free roaming ponies and miles of cycleways and walkways, this site has direct access to the forest. There really is no better way to gain a more authentic New Forest experience from your tent! Facilities Tents Touring caravans Motorhomes Trailer tents Jumbo tent pitches Grassy pitches Seasonal pitches Sheltered site No disabled facilities Chemical toilet disposal Drinking water taps Pets welcome No showers No toilets Not surprisingly, because of its unique environment and rare mix of habitats that support animal and plant life, the New Forest is an area of special interest. The New Forest is a haven to local wildlife; it is home to the UK's largest breeding population of the rare Dartford Warbler, while all three native species of snake can be discovered in the Forest - the adder, grass snake and smooth snake. Equally, it is home to rare and impressive plant life. Around 700 species of wildflower are said to grow in the New Forest - a third of the total found in Britain, while rare plants such as the blue marsh gentian and the bog orchid grow in the New Forest mires. From Matley Wood there is direct access to the Forest, and the pretty village of Brockenhurst can be reached directly from the campsite by bike without the need to take any roads. The campsite is also within walking distance of Lyndhurst, offering a fantastic selection of restaurants, shops and pubs. The National Motor Museum and Beaulieu Palace are just five miles away and hold special events throughout the season. The New Forest Tour open-top sightseeing bus stops at this campsite during the summer months. Why not hop on and discover all the wonderful sights, sounds and history of the unique New Forest environment? You can also take your bike on board! Dogs are welcome at Matley Wood. Please be aware that this campsite does not have toilets, showers or electricity, therefore your own chemical toilet is essential.
