We had a one night stay and really enjoyed our stay. The hotel is very close to the railway station, easy 5 minute walk, and 15 minutes to the centre. The hotel is very comfortable with a nice open lobby and lovely bar and lounge. The bedrooms were excellent both the family room and the double room both with a separate toilet. A cooler and bottled water complimentary. Excellent sleep quality. The swimming pool was a bonus. Gym looked good. The breakfast was good quality and served with a smile. The hotel is truly family friendly with great child prices including breakfast. The staff were very efficient and friendly. Good views from bedrooms of cruise ships and the West Quay shopping area. We booked months in advance directly with hotel and got a great deal. Highly recommended.
My room was spotlessly clean, spacious with a very comfortable settee which I later realised was a bed setter. I had an excellent night’s sleep on the best mattress I have ever encountered in an hotel. The shower was also excellent. There was a generous selection of teas and coffee available and, for the first time ever in my experience of an hotel small cartons of fresh semi-skimmed milk. In the past I have been a frequent user of Ibis hotels but on this occasion due to reduced numbers as a result of Covid all Accor guests were accommodated in the Novatel. In the light if my experience here my next bookings will definitely be with Novatel.
Very underwhelming! Especially when you consider the price... the Rooms were tiny... Not what you would expect from a Novotel property. Some redeeming things: The breakfast spread was decent and we got some good service throughout the stay and The bar was excellent!
Hotel, rooms and amenities were all average. Location is good as there are lots of things near by to get to on foot and or by car. Service by all staff was actually really good. Reception staff were great and the manager in the breakfast restaurant (short guy) was amazing. He kept us entertained for the entire 3 day stay. The pool was ok and steam room was nice. We had 2 adjoining rooms so that was helpful but the rooms are a bit tight when you have the sofa beds open - probably needs to be a bit bigger but we made it work. Breakfast quality was nice, just a bit slow to replenish when things ran out but all the staff were great. Parking is easy and ample too.
We stayed in Novotel Southampton while visiting our family in the area. It is a lovely hotel in an excellent location. Has large car park so it was always very easy to find a spot to park. The charge to park is £10 per day which is very reasonable for a city centre location. Staff in the hotel were friendly caring and pleasant, starting from the reception and throughout the bar, restaurant and cleaning service. All of the team members were great but we remember Colin in the restaurant during breakfast who is a great asset to the hotel. Our bedroom was specious with comfortable bed, nice bathroom, separate toilet and good Wi-Fi reception. Dinner was par excellence as was breakfast, good menu choice and friendly professional service. The whole experience was great and we would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone.…
We stayed for 1 night whilst visiting west quay and peppa pig world. Lovely hotel, clean, friendly staff, spacious rooms and fab facilities ie bar and pool. Everything was clean and well looked after and the staff were all lovely. The man on check in even gave my little girl a little drawing book as a gift which was lovely. Well equipped gym, lovely pool and nice sauna. Can't complain about anything :) very affordable and worth staying at if in the area.
On a map getting to the Novotel Southampton from the train station looks quite straightforward. When you exit the station (on the South side) you can see the Novotel and it should only take 5 minutes walking, according to Google maps. However, it is tempting to take the ‘obvious’ straight-ish route across the busy Western Esplanade Road and through the Wren kitchens carpark, but you encounter a fence and have to back track to find the correct route. Doh ! Once there I was met with a warm welcome by the receptionist. It was an efficient and professional check in. My room was prepaid, and after all the necessary information (use of the health facilities, breakfast, bar etc) needed for my stay was issued the receptionist asked if I had been to Southampton before. I said I’d passed through on route to Poole and further West but never got off of a train here. She supplied me with a city map and pointed out several locations which may be of interest to a visitor. The room was good, even though the sofa had been converted into a bed for my young son, but there was still enough space. I liked how we had a bath and a shower; trying to wash a four year old who hates showers with a passion is never good. I was also grateful for the extras like iron and ironing board and a fridge. Wifi coverage was excellent. We took advantage of the health facilities by going for a swim. I passed by the gym area and it contained a good level of machines and free weights. The quality of breakfast was good, a wide selection of first-rate dishes. The staff were helpful and friendly. The only downside was that on arrival and giving my room details I was told that ‘our room’ had already attended breakfast. The maître d' was fine and let us in without a fuss but I don’t like the idea of people using my room number to ‘steal’ a free breakfast. On the whole it was a very comfortable and enjoyable stay. It shows what a well-managed Novotel hotel should be like. Well done to the staff for their care and friendliness during our stay.…
I generally use Accor group hotels (for business and personal trips) and have stayed at Novotel in the past. ... In fact, always had very positive things to say about Novotel which made me book this family trip for 5 nights. Sorry to say, this stay was the worst. ... The basic requirement for anyone who stays at a hotel, is a decent night sleep apart from cleanliness and security. The AC could not be adjusted in the room as the hotel did an override to set a standard temperature across the rooms / hotel (I am not sure if this is Novotel Southampton policy, Novotel Policy or Accor Hotels Policy!) irrespective of external temperature, this meant the room was uncomfortably warm at nights (I can understand cost cutting at the current energy prices, but this does not mean guests are not entitled to a decent night sleep) ... I spoke to the reception, they were courteous, but the message was - It is what it is, and they could do nothing about it. (I really did not wish to argue and spoil my mood any further than it already was.) .... Apparently, few other guests had also complained. Anyways, I now know to ask for the AC policy before making any bookings in the future. ... In fact, the hotel should have been upfront about this policy at booking or should have offered a refund. Also, Toilet was separate to the bathroom with no sink, unhygienic as this promotes cross contamination of germs and bacteria. The bathroom door had a large gap in the middle so no privacy to dress up / down.…
My general stay was average, the room was dusty, the fan blew out dust, doors and general furniture had dust on. We was a family staying at the hotel and we all found ourselves to be itching which, I suspect was from the bed linen and the dusty environment. The menu advocates some food items as 24/7 but, this was not the case when I went to get a pizza. I was told the bar was closed and no further explanation was given on this misleading information on the menu. Our toilet got blocked and after raising this as an issue I got a spare room down the corridor to use the toilet in. It wasn't ideal but, a solution was found. If I didn't raise this as an issue I would have ended up using the toilet in the lobby which, was the initial recommendation of the staff member. Toilet was fixed the following morning prior our check out. Hotel staff was unable to move us as I was told there were no rooms to accommodate 3 adults. Toilet was separate to the bathroom, toilet was small with no sink, unhygienic as this promotes cross contamination of germs and bacteria. The bathroom door had a gap in the middle, no privacy when staying in groups. Also, no lock on the bathroom or toilet. Generally staff were approachable and friendly but, some staff were unfriendly and unhelpful.…
Stayed with my husband & 6 year old son. Staff were so friendly & welcoming. Very clean. Good breakfast. Excellent location. We used the pool which is quite small but they monitor the numbers so no over crowding. Will definitely return at some point in the future.
