Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Tired, dated b&b. Room looked clean but on closer inspection it wasn't that clean. I certainly wouldn't walk on the carpet barefoot. Shared small bathrooms, only used the loo refused to shower here. But having said all that the owner was helpful and friendly.

The guest house is in a residential street, a short walk from the station, that has other guest houses and the only problem we had, beyond their control, was residents chatting and laughing outside the property opposite until the early hours. Hopefully this was because it was a Saturday and not a regular occurrence. The people were lovely, friendly and helpful. Our room was very clean with a plug in heater and fan to use, if we were too hot or cold, plenty of storage space, small but perfectly adequate en-suite facilities with good-sized shower cubicle and a very fair supply of tea, coffee, milk and sugar. They are currently only providing breakfast at the weekend and we were offered several choices of teas, cereals, fruit juice and cooked options. We would be happy to return.

The guest house itself is pretty much what you would expect, no luxuries but it's clean and a nice place to stay. Our stay would have been great of it weren't for the ridiculously loud music and shouting from another house on the street. My partner went out to ask them to keep it down at about 8pm and was amazed to find that they were about five houses down (how do speakers even go that high!) and was told to "f*** off". It would really be Claremont's owners interest to work with their landlord to sort this out because the two nights of noise from the drunks down the road means we won't be back.

The guesthouse is ok. Basic but clean. Dated and with precious little style. 5/10 The guesthouse is in a rough area. The locals (and most residents) are dedicated to drinking cans of strong larger all day and all night. It can get a bit dangerous and you might witness a fight, mugging or drug deal. You might even find spots of blood in the reception from previous violent incidents. Most locals and residents appear to be either about to enter prison or have been released from prison. Discounts are probably available for patients who have escaped the local addiction rehab facility. Not suitable for women and children unless they feel safe in human cesspit of grot. 1/10 Cooked breakfast is microwaved quickly to maximise the opportunity for the low quality ingredients to have all flavour and nutritional value removed. Fried egg was ok. They have juice, toast, cereal and tea/coffee which is ok. 2/10

I stayed here with my son and two friends last weekend for 2 nights. We were disappointed to say the least . The guest house was very tired and in need of refurbishment. The area it is in isn’t nice either . When we arrived there was loud music playing from the property opposite and men milling around with cans of beer going back and forth between the two properties. The day before we traveled we all received an email advising us that due to Covid they were no longer providing breakfast. I went away last year and stayed in b&bs in Cornwall and breakfast was provided everywhere so i was surprised by this. On arrival we were told that they had decided to cook breakfast after all at the cost of £5 even though some of the rooms included breakfast. We declined as we were going out early the following day. After attending a wedding reception in Southampton we arrived back after midnight to the music playing louder than before and people drinking and shouting, again going between the two properties. There was a sign on the door warning that there had been thefts from the rooms and to be wary of giving anyone not staying there access to the property ! However when we returned to get showered and changed before going out for the evening to find that the cleaners had been in and my sons room was not only left open but with the spare key in the keyhole ! He returned the key to reception but no apology , just a simple “oh thats the cleaners “. We were horrified. Fortunately there was nothing of high value in the room, but my friend had money in his . There was carrier bags of empty beer cans and cider bottles on the landing both mornings. We were fortunate in the fact that our whole weekend was busy so we actually didn’t spend a-lot of time on the premises. I wouldn’t return or recommend, the complete opposite.

A couple of stones throw from Southampton Central this guesthouse was a great value stay. I was greeted by the friendly manager Nann who gave me a tour and keys and took me to the room. Clean and well presented en-suite room with a comfy bed, tv, wifi and tea and coffee. There was no fridge in the room but that was already clear when booking. Kitchen was available during the day very handy. Had the opportunity to speak to the owner Joanna on a few occasions and she was always ready to assist and making sure the stay was going well. Would go back.

When you walk through the door you are welcome with staff that are so friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean comfortable and warm which gives you that homely feeling. Please do not be put off by the parking in the road. The staff will always sort out a parking space for you. I came up from Dorset for work and I would definitely stay here again if I am ever in Southampton again. Give the Claremont a try you will be surprised.
