Booked a secret escape package, impressed with quality of food. Very large room with beautiful outdoor terrace, but noticed parts of the hotel needs some TLC, particularly in the cleaning department... i.e. Noticed on arrival hallway and lifts had a lot of crumbs & debris on floor, which was there for the duration of our stay (22hrs), a simple sweep...

We stayed here for the first time in January 16 and as birthdays come around every year we decided to go back again. Sadly, the hotel showed a few signs of decline. The cost of maintaining an old building must be high, but there are now many signs that the external fabric of the building is in need of attention....

We recently stayed here for 3 nights. We had a large room which was very comfortable with a lovely view but the shower, although separate, was to say the least, weedy and weak. The lighting in the room and indeed throughout the hotel was exceedingly sad, which is a great shame because it could be so much better with a...

Big thumbs up and thanks to the staff at this hotel for making a wonderful family birthday weekend. The rooms in the main building are like a time capsule to the likes of Downton Abbey and you can lose yourself in this wonderfully historic building with real fire places lit around the building. Ok there's a lack of plug sockets,...

Had a cheeky upgrade when we got to the hotel! Superb welcome, manager on duty was so helpful. Room great, comfy bed, probably need a refurb in a year or 2? Dinner and breakfast 1st class! Scallops, fillet beef, creme brûlée, black pudding, sausages, eggs and so on, delish!!👌 Happily return here.

This hotel was fantastic. We booked via Travelzoo, and we didn't look at reviews etc. The hotel itself is set in beautiful grounds. The building is very old, so yes there some squeaky floorboards. I read a a review stating the bar and library were a little old looking, yes they are which is in keeping with the building, they...

Superb hotel with open fires, friendly staff and delicious well cooked and well presented food. We stayed in room 11 which was massive and overlooking the gardens. It was extremely peaceful. The restaurant was clean and the atmosphere was great for a relaxing evening. Cooked breakfast could not be faulted.

We stayed in early December 2016 on an extremely good value deal from an independent website so in that sense were very well satisfied. Lots of positives: we had an enormous room under the eaves in the newer part of the hotel, comfortably furnished and well equipped but a little soul-less, and the bathroom taps, shower controls etc. had certainly...
