This is a classic and traditional hotel. The rooms are all different and individual, nicely decorated and equipped. Try and book a front facing room as high up as possible. There are no lifts so be warned take light luggage for the stay. Staff are attentive and friendly. There's a driver service to the Milsom restaurant.
Visited twice recently and on both occasions the whole experience was superb. We had meals in both the outside enclosed area, with heating and blankets and inside the main building. The menu on both occasions was very good. The specials and main menu offered us an excellent choice. The food was very good accompanied with a good drinks selection. Ambiance, decor and staff all of a very high standard. We will return!!
Let’s start with the positive- food excellent and great choice on the menu- cooked to perfection. Check in was good, greeted by a friendly member of staff, very cheerful. Negative - well this started when we tried to order a dessert to our room (we had already paid for it as we paid the rate which included a 3 course meal). We called reception to order the dessert at 9.30pm, there was no answer. We called a series of times but still no answer. We went down to the reception at 10pm and was told 10pm was the cut off time and we were too late. We explained that we had paid for the dessert and had rung repeatedly- they sent a member of staff to our room with drinks we ordered who stated we couldn’t have rung reception as they would have acknowledged our call and they seemed to be reluctant to believe we had repeatedly rung. We asked for our money back and who the manager on shift was, we were told we had to wait until the morning and the staff member didn’t know who the manager was. Whilst this conversation was going on, a gentleman appeared in the corridor and started demanding that the staff member do something about doors closing and opening and disturbing him in his room. Then the gentleman begun to say we as guests were disturbing him and to “take our conversation elsewhere” when we were in our bedroom speaking to the staff member with the door open. It was only 10pm at the weekend, I was very annoyed the man came towards our door when I was sitting on the bed. I think the staff member found this amusing more than anything else and really they should of shown a bit more control by telling the gentleman to wait his turn to complain and back off from our bedroom door. Both of us suffered a terrible nights sleep, we stayed in room 14, all night we heard loud creaking floor boards with people or a person walking up and down continuously- I had to take a sleeping tablet but even that didn’t work. This hotel could be a gem but it really needs to tighten up on a few things- client/customer privacy, making the rules clear on checkin with food times, more respect for your customers and belief in their responses, answering the reception phone in a timely manner and finally getting the floor boards sorted out above the rooms on the ground floor as they could drive anyone insane. …
Stayed for three nights in room 6. Very comfortable room especially the bed - slept better here than for the last few months! Ate in restaurant all three nights - food excellent especially the duck tacos. All staff were SO helpful but especially Ashley who seemed to be everywhere at once and made our stay extra special - thank you.
