The Ship is in central Rye, at the bottom of Mermaid Street. Built in 1592, it was originally a warehouse to store contraband seized from smugglers. It is now a characterful pub, with beams, wooden floors & log fires. Open from eleven every day for freshly prepared food, local fish, Bloody Marys, real ales & organic cider. 10 comfy modern rooms (four of which are dog-friendly) - all with en-suite bath or shower. Children, dogs are especially welcome.

Went here for a meal, have been in the past when it was a proper pub, now its very expensive, £10 glass of wine i can get the bottle in the super market for £15. The food was also very expensive, and a child has no choice but to have 3 courses of the limited kids menu, the service didn't help either as it was poor and slow, Oh and don't leave a tip as there is a service charge on your bill... I prefer to decide if the staff deserve a tip which unfortunately this lot didn't.....

Took my family today which included my parents, it was super busy but everything was spot on. Great service and the food was superb. The young lads that served us were polite, helpful and very charismatic! I’ll definitely be going back! The town was absolutely rammed and I can only imagine the pressure was on all day! COVID safe, spacious! All positives from me!

Walked in today for a drink and for some reason the lady just didn’t seem happy to serve us and was very short with us... we decided against getting a drink as they must be doing very well they don’t want the custom? Shame....

Returned to The Ship on a Sunday evening having stayed before. We were very happy to have been upgraded to a Suite which was so unexpected and most luxurious. We had everything we needed for an extremely special stay ... We ate in the pub and would recommend the food, the restaurant is popular and was very busy but Christian the Manager fitted us in. The breakfast was one of the best we have had and such good quality. Rye is lovely place to visit.. See you again in 2021!
