Loved everything about this place. I have never stayed in a hotel with so much character. Cozy public spaces, enormous fireplaces, cute bar and super tasty breakfast in the morning. Thank you for a great weekend break.

Stayed for 1 night. Hotel was very old and quaint . Staff were amazing!!!. Had dinner in restaurant and it was OK. Reasonably priced. Breakfast was ok just small. Car park only holds 25 cars but the staff will do all they can to help you .

This Inn dates back to the mid 12th Century and was rebuilt in early 15th Century. As a result there is not a straight wall, floor or door in the entire building. This can be difficult to become accustomed to "navigate" and we both felt a little as though we were on board a ship as simply walking across a...

Thank you for your review. The Mermaid is truly unique, and shaped by nearly 600 years of history, with so many stories to tell. Whether it is a visit by Queen Elizabeth 1 in 1573 or the Queen Mother in 1983. Whether it was the Hawkhurst Smuggling Gang in the 1740s or the garrison of Canadian Soldiers in the 1940s....

Gorgeous place. Old beams, roaring fires and a feeling of going back in time. Our original room had a problem but, as it couldn't be fixed, the helpful receptionist upgraded us to the most amazing room with a four poster bed and en suite with roll top bath. The fountain in the courtyard below was switched off at night. The...

Thank you for your review. We will share your fulsome praise with all concerned. The Mermaid rebuilt in 1420, is truly a unique place, all 31 rooms are individual, the result of the shaping of history. We hope to welcome you again in the future to The Mermaid, because like a true siren, her charms are never forgotten.

Arriving at this Inn was amazing! It ticked all the boxes for my American partner! She was overwhelmed by the antiquity and originality of the building, originally built in 1156 AD! Our experience from beginning to end was amazing! From learning the warren of corridors and stairs to get to our room and finding our way out, to the friendliness...

The Mermaid, rebuilt in 1420, has been lovingly curated by the same owners since 1993, hence she has retained all her historic charms, for our guests to enjoy today. We have just returned from an overnight break at the Mermaid Inn after celebrating a birthday. The level of service and the quality of the hotel was outstanding. Nothing was to much bother for the staff and our stay was all the better for their attention. The room we had was a four poster bedded one and had all the...

Lovely old hotel/inn in the cobbled streets, lots of history and character. We stopped here for a drink in the bar, which was full to bursting but we were still served quickly and with enthusiasm. The staff offered us the lounge to take a seat and enjoy our drinks, which was a lovely location. Disappointed that we couldn't sit in...

I booked a very good deal on Secret Escapes and took my husband for a surprise Valentine's Day trip. It was great and we both loved it. We shall be going back. The hotel itself is a delight, with cozy fires in the residents' lounges, bedrooms that ooze atmosphere with wonky floors and beams, lots of pictures and panelling and...

We travelled to Rye for a romantic weekend away looking forward to staying in the much lauded and haunted Mermaid Inn. On arrival the receptionist told us that as we were only recently engaged, an older engaged couple, they were going to upgrade our room. We got a wonderful four poster bed and en-suite with all the regular accoutrements in...

As a disclaimer, this is only a review of the bar because we didn't stay at the hotel or use the restaurant but instead popped in for a refreshing drink after a day of walking all around Rye, up and down the hill! The venue dates back to the 15th Century and the structure and décor is a wonderful balance...
