This lovely B&B is a place of peace and tranquility. We had such a lovely time here. We had a nice bedroom, (no2) plenty of space, with a cute modern ensuite. The breakfasts were delicious. (I ended up having the pancakes, a sausage and scrambled eggs, a winning combination) The owner Julie has a real eye for detail about everything and is most sincere in her wish to make everything perfect for your stay. The garden is an oasis of beauty and calm, so pleasurable to spend time in. One of the evenings when we were there, we heard a brass band practising in the church nearby, the birds were singing, and the apple trees surrounded us, which all added to the ambience. Thank you for a lovely stay, we leave much more relaxed than we came.
This is a lovely place to stay. I could find no faults. The attention to detail is amazing I will definitely be staying again. I would highly recommend this hotel as the place to stay if you are visiting South Devon. Superb!
Lovely little Hotel, great breakfast, comfy beds, great hosts, nice garden, near town centre, good recommendations where to eat (with discounts) contact the hotel direct and not through Booking.com it will save you money. The beer was nice too. Cant wait to come again
We were visiting friends who moved to Totnes last year. They recommended The Old Forge and they were right to do so. It is in a perfect setting; quiet but just a short walk from the town centre. We had a garden room which is separate from the main building and opens onto the quiet grassy garden with apple trees and tables and seats to enjoy the sun. The room was clean and bright with lovely crisp white bed linen and en-suite shower / toilet. Not being built from masonry, the sound insulation between the two garden rooms is somewhat less than ideal, but not disturbing. Breakfast in the new conservatory is a delight with a good choice of options. The owners, Julie and Mike are attentive hosts and Julie was especially helpful with tips, advice and assistance. We couldn't have chosen a better place to stay for our first real break since 2019 and can thoroughly recommend it as a base for exploring Totnes and the surrounding area. We will be back...…
What a stunning place to stay. Little historical gem ...as a history person i loved the setting.. Such personal attention ...the breakfast fruit salad was adjusted to take account of my allergy and was divine. Rest of the food was such high quality. Throughout 6* service.
It’s been a long time since I stayed at a B and B ……. A very long time…..but if The Old Forge is the measure….then we need to do it more often. Hubby booked us into the Old Forge at Totnes for just one night whilst we made a whistle stop tour to South Devon….and it was truly a little bit of heaven. Julie, the host was just lovely. Truly friendly, personable, helpful and a great ambassador for Totnes. She made us feel so very welcome, paid attention to what we wanted to do in terms of arrival and check in and it was so refreshing to have someone who managed that balance between friendly and professional. The Old Forge is such a beautiful place, full of character and wonderfully devoid of any sense of corporate “vanillaness” The building had a great personality and was truly beautiful with bags of traditional style. Lovely clean fluffy white towels, plenty of toiletries, comfy bed and just everything we needed to have a comfortable and relaxed style. The Old Forge is in a quite location but so close to the hustle and bustle of Totnes.… It is ideally placed for an early morning stroll by there r and I strongly recommend it….this was magical…very quiet and peaceful and to return to a delicious breakfast was fab. Breakfast was relaxed with a great choice of locally sourced produce….we sat in the conservatory and the garden is just beautiful. I am not sure who to thank more….Hubby for booking the break…or Julie for making The Old Forge a very special little haven in amazing Devon market town. Well worth a visit 💛🧡❤️…
I booked in to stay in September but then received contact to say that they'd double booked the room. I was told this was a technical issue. I didn't receive a phone call or any acknowledgement of fault on their behalf: just an excuse in an online message. I would expect more given the inconvenience this has caused me. There is no more accommodation in the area due to a sporting event I am also attending and so I'm left without anywhere to stay and no chance of finding an alternative. Looks nice in the photos, I'll print one and take it with me when I'm sleeping in my car.
Excellent stay, room perfect, walking distance from Totnes. Breakfast first class made with local ingredients. You could not find more friendly helpful hosts. Garden room has outside space with table and chairs in lovely garden setting.
The other reviews sum up beautifully how lovely this tiny hotel/B&B this is. It’s minutes away from the centre of Totnes and even though breakfast is the only meal available, there’s plenty of eateries close by many recommended by Julie and some with discounts available to Old George residents. Julie is the most charming and welcoming host and clearly takes pride in keeping the rooms spotless and spruced up each day of our visit. She serves a wonderful and diverse breakfast in the dining room overlooking the central garden and was forever attentive to our needs. We’ll be delighted to stay again.
We stayed here for a couple of nights in August whilst visiting relatives in Paignton. What a lovely little B & B on the edge of town just 5 minutes pleasant walk over the river into town. We had a garden room which was located in an outbuilding at the back of the small garden. The room was lovely with an en-suite shower room. The only slight drawback was the door and window fill one wall which are covered by venetian blinds which do let in some light first thing in the morning but apart from that it was excellent. The breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice and cooked to order. The service was excellent and couldn't do enough for you. There is parking for five or six cars at the front of the property which is a bit tight but there is also street parking nearby. We were asked to bring our own towels but this was due to the problems with supply due to the pandemic and wasn't any inconvenience to us. Would definitely stay here again.…
