We come to the Royal Seven Stars every August (but with a break the last two years for obvious reasons!) while we attend concerts at the Dartington Summer Festival. We love the place. It's quirky and that's what gives the ancient place its charm. The staff are pleasant and helpful. Since we were here last, they have stopped serving breakfast in what used to be the restaurant but having breakfast in the bar was fine. We wonder what is happening with the old restaurant? Breakfast was a bit slow - 20 minutes for scrambled egg seemed a little excessive but I know everywhere is short of staff these days so we realise the difficulties. It was good when it came! Our room was air-conditioned which seemed a great luxury - but very necessary with temperaturs in the high 20s - and even at night in the low 20s. The bathroom was fine and the shower worked well. As others have said, a fridge in the room to keep the water cool would have been nice - but, honestly, it's not usually necessary so it would be an extravagance, I guess. The bar staff were happy to provide fresh chilled water. This is a lovely place and we will no doub be back next year. Thanks to all concerned! We were here 11th, 12th and 14th August 2022.

We booked the Seven Stars in Totnes as we were visiting a friend and we wanted to be in the centre of the town. Upon arrival we were checked in very quickly by the Manager who gave us our keys and told us where our rooms were. The room was very nice, clean and tidy and had tea coffee and water etc. It would have been extra special if there had been a mini fridge in the room to keep the water that was supplied, cool, as there was enough room to fit it in, but that did not detract from our stay, just a suggestion. The big bed in the room was soooo comfy and we had such a great nights sleep! We booked a table for the evening in the restaurant which, again was lovely. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and made our evening very enjoyable. As the hotel is at the bottom of the town, it was an excellent location to pop into the town to explore the many shops and cafes, we especially liked the Cinema which was a cafe that turned into a cinema after, brilliant. The breakfast at the hotel was fabulous! There was a choice of continental or cooked but we ordered what we fancied from the menu which all came very quickly and was of a high standard, and of course, very tasty! During our stay, the staff were always ready to help with any problems or enquiries and we were made to feel very welcome and that nothing was too much trouble for them. The overall experience of our stay was, we will definitely book the hotel again when we next visit Totnes.

Central hotel in Totnes. 5 minutes to the river. Our room was fine but with window to the street, very noisy day and night. No parking directly at the hotel, we used the shopping center parking. Best part of the room was the bed, very good. Friendly but very stressed staff.

Stopped for a quick lunch, although busy, the order was taken efficiently and charmingly, with food delivered very quickly. Great quality and generous potions, especially the fried fish. As we were short of time, I asked how long and was told 8 minutes, which they achieved!

A short holiday break. Hotel is very comfortable and ideally situated at the bottom end of Fore Street. Food was very good with generous portions though several dishes on the menu, such as fish, were unavailable. Room was very comfortable with air conditioning. It's a pity that there was an outside extractor fan that ran all night. Not apparent in the daytime, but disturbing in the still of the night. Staff very friendly and helpful. A lovely stay.

i work for the same organisation so to say i’m disappointed is the very least i can explain it as. we walked in and we’re not greeted by anyone despite stood at the door looking extremely confused. the staff were pretty unfriendly and not very helpful. the sauces were kept on the table probably left there all the time getting warm and the mayo had looked like it had gone off. i will not be returning. i had ordered the brownie however it came as 7 tiny brownies with nothing to it. very disappointed.

We were pleased to be able to book at short notice. The room we were allocated was large airy and beautifully decorated. As many people have commented the staff were excellent throughout. Looking forward to our next visit.

We had a very enjoyable one night stay in the Family Room. It was clean, comfortable and had a good selection of teas/coffee/biscuits. The toiletries provided were lovely and the shower/bath (Not for the long legged) were good. The only downside to the room was noise during the night (2am) when the washing machine seemed to be running. We ate dinner in the restaurant (Red Mullet/Steak) and it was outstanding, as was the breakfast (Full English/Smoked Salmon and Scrambled Eggs) with our only reservation being that the breakfast portions seemed overly generous! Every member of staff was bright and cheerful which seemed a particularly great achievement given their low numbers.

My friend and I booked a five night stay at the Royal Seven Stars and I have to say it was very disappointing The place is in need of a total refurbishment Room six needs a total refurb, ensuite very small and had to run water for ten mins before water got warm and needed a good clean. They have a very limited food menu, and half of that was not available. The hotel is definitely struggling for staff. The only positive feedback I can give is that the staff are lovely and very hard working. I would not recommend anyone to stay at this hotel.

The room was the worst I have ever been offered. The furniture was falling apart and there was a chair in the room which neither my husband or I would sit on as you were worried what you might catch if you did. It was supposed to be a superior room so goodness knows what the ordinary rooms are. The windows were literally covered in dead flies and spiderwebs and thick dust. The skirting boards were again inches thick with dust and the bathroom floor was littered with pieces of toilet paper. We were so appalled that we stayed in the room for one hour and could bear it no longer. Stay at your peril!!!
